Candles Are an Inexpensive Way to Decorate

Candles are an inexpensive way to enhance your home décor. They are a great way to introduce color without making a commitment. They also add drama to your home, turning a gathering into a celebration, or a quiet evening alone into a spa experience.

In addition, candles double your decorating efforts by accentuating what you already own. You can place them strategically to draw attention to items you want to showcase, like a seashell from your vacation. In doing so, you draw the eye away from what you might not want to showcase, like a pile of clutter.

In selecting colors for the candles, you can go with monochromatic scheme, such as using blue candles in a blue room. But it's more visually interesting to pick up an accent color found in accessories. Even more interesting is to add punches of color not found in the room, for example, decorating a neutral room with red candles.

Another fun way to use candles is to build a pleasing arrangement of mementos and photographs. You can place these items on an attractive tray or piece of fabric. Put candles with this display and you have created a gorgeous ensemble that boasts your personal touch.

Safety is important. Don't leave candles unattended, and do trim the wicks so that you don't have overly large flames.

Candles are a great addition to your dinner table. Though taper candles are a popular choice, tealight and votive candles are wonderful here. They show off the beauty of your food and table settings, showcasing them almost like works of art.

Though you may select unscented candles for your dinner table, scented candles used elsewhere can provide other benefits. Depending on the fragrance, they can be relaxing, energizing, or romantic. Some fragrances contain essential oils such as lavender or sage. Orange fragrances, for example, are said to provide headache relief. Experimenting with different types of fragrances is a good way to find ones that best enhance your life. Whether fruity, foodie, or floral, you are sure to find your favorites.

A mirror placed underneath or propped up behind candles multiplies their effect. Beads or marbles scattered at the base of the candle pick up their soft glow, and give you another way to play with color. You can even put floating candles in a container of water, adding food coloring to the water to achieve the desired effect.

There are an infinite number of ways to decorate using candles. You can use them to change the look of a room in minutes, with little financial investment. It is an effortless way to look like you spent more on decorating than you really did.
