Candy on the Bed

What Do You Do when Your Worst Fears Come True?

David Carr
I'll pour myself, a glass of wine
But I'd prefer strychnine instead
And when I finally find the courage
I'll ask you about candy, on the bed

The moment has come for us
To think about the lives we've led
It's time to reconcile our hopes and fears
And wax philosophical about candy, on the bed

I have made a million mistakes my dear
Too many of them to name
And now the picture we have painted
Has fallen sadly from its frame

You never tell me where you're going
But I always know where you've been
And the look within your eyes
Tells me how much of a mess we're in

Sometime ago I stopped listening
You never tired to speak to me
And now it's plain for the entire world
And for everyone to see...

This scene within the picture show
Has taken a tragic turn
I've finally figured out the meaning
Of the things I should have learned

So I need to let you know now
That I am ready to make amends
Before we were ever lovers
We used to be good friends

I promise to do the things you need
Will you believe the words I've said?
But before we get to talking
Please tell me about the candy on the bed

I have a thousand questions to ask
Spinning 'round inside my head
When I feel the times is right
I'll ask about candy on the bed...
