Candy Cane Crafts for Christmas

What would Christmas be without candy canes? During the holidays it seems as though candy canes are everywhere. Candy canes delight the young and the old as well. And it is an inexpensive item to use in Christmas crafts. Following are a few Christmas candy cane crafts that my kids and I have enjoyed making over the years.

Reindeer

You will need 1 candy cane, 1 pipe cleaner (color of your choice), 2 plastic eyes, and a ribbon.

Cut the pipe cleaner in half. Twist one of the halves around the top of the candy cane where it curves over. Then twist it to hold in place. This will be the antlers. You can bend and twist the antlers to mold them into an antler shape. Using a hot glue gun, attach the eyes onto the candy cane about an inch under the antlers on the curved part of the candy cane. Then affix a bow to the center of the candy cane by using the ribbon and tying it into a bow. Now you have a cute, little Christmas candy cane reindeer to hang on the tree, attach to gifts or give a presents. This is a simple Christmas craft and is appropriate for young children.

Candy Cane Sleigh

You will need 2 candy canes, red or green wrapping paper, 1 regular size bar of candy (like Hersheys).

Wrap the bar of candy in the wrapping paper. Then on the underside of the wrapped candy bar, using a glue gun, run 2 lines of glue longways at each side of the candy bar. Press 1 candy cane into each line of glue, making sure the curved end of the candy cane is over the candy bar. And that's all there is to it. You have a candy cane sleigh to exhibit somewhere in your home. A great idea is to load it up with some little candies in bright wrap.
