Candy Review: Raisinets

A Movie-Goer Favorite!

Michael Kaye
Packaging -
The packaging is made of a light cardboard and has a perforated line for an easy opening spout. The only problem is, the easy open spout is far from easy open. I was sitting there in my seat pushing and clawing at this perforated line. Finally I gave up and was forced to open it from the top. Did you ever open an orange juice carton incorrectly and suddenly there is no spout. Well, that is exactly how I felt in this situation. There was one more thing that bothered me about the box. If you'll notice it says "Still 30% Less Fat." It is deceiving because it makes you think that at one point the 30% of fat was in there and suddenly they took it away. If that's the case, then what's the point in saying it's 30% less fat, when there isn't a product out there that has the 30% in it. But this argument actually is going nowhere. It took me a moment to realize that in small print under the green banner it read "than the leading chocolate candy brand."

Size of Actual Product -
This is an instance where I can actually say it's the size of a raisin. A perfect size for handfuls if you find it necessary.

Color -
Imagine chocolate. What color is it? If you still having trouble it's BROWN.

Smell -
It's hard to actually be able to smell a raisinet. If you pour a handful into your hands you would smell milk chocolate. The smell is neither appeasing or discomforting for me.

Taste -
When you bite down on a raisinet, the shell of chocolate immediately breaks off the raisin. Chewing you get the sweetness off the chocolate and the raisin. The whole experience is over in seconds, so eating a lot of this product in one sitting common. I couldn't help but thinking that I wish the raisin and chocolate tasted richer. Also, I didn't quite like the aftertaste which is a big part of the taste test.

Consumption Tip -
These are not M&M's, they will melt in your hands. That isn't to say that an M&M won't melt in your hands. But, it's the slogan, and you get the picture. Anyways, eat quickly to avoid melted chocolate on your hands.

Fun Fact -
Introduced in 1927 by the Blumenthal Chocolate Company. NESTLE acquired the brand in 1984.
