CANIDAE Pet Food Company Offers a "Helping Paw"

From Free Dog Food to Informative Articles, CANIDAE Aids Animals and Their Owners

Julia Williams
Anyone who believes the old adage, "nothing in life is free," hasn't met the very generous folks at CANIDAEĀ® All Natural Pet Foods. This company was founded out of love for pets and animals, and it shows in the many ways they continue to give back to their customers, to the public and to dogs and cats all across the United States.

CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods latest charitable enterprise is the sponsorship of a blog entitled Responsible Pet Ownership. The sole purpose of this blog is to help pet owners take good care of their animals by providing helpful information on all aspects of pet ownership and care, including proper nutrition, grooming, training, health, and behavior.

The Responsible Pet Ownership articles are written by a diverse group of people. Some articles are penned by professional writers, some are contributed by vets and CANIDAE staff, while others are written by lifelong pet owners. Although the authors' backgrounds are very different, they all have one thing in common, which is a deep love for pets and a commitment to responsible pet ownership.

Because the contributing authors come from all walks of life, the topics covered on the blog are wide ranging. Dog lovers can learn how to protect their canine companion from heat stroke, sunburns, fleas and ticks. They can read about different skin conditions and dog breeds, get helpful information on vehicle safety, and find out how to build a backyard dog run or help an overweight dog lose weight.

Cat lovers can learn how to teach their feline friend to perform tricks and use a scratching post. They can also get helpful tips on making cheap cat toys, find out how to travel with cats, and discover ways to make an indoor cat's life happier. The Responsible Pet Ownership blog also presents helpful information on pet food, including grain free diets. Many pet owners nowadays are trying to decide if a grain-free food is right for their dog or cat, and CANIDAE helps them make an informed decision.

In keeping with their generous spirit and desire to help animals and their owners, CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods sponsors many worthwhile pet charities, including the Pongo Fund which helps Portland's homeless and low income people feed their dogs and cats. They also provide free pet food to special charity events such as the Hounds and Rebounds, the Wags for Wishes Event benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the San Jose Bark in the Park.

CANIDAE is very active in supporting the American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation as well. To raise funds for canine cancer research, they conduct charity raffles at popular venues such as the Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, and the Amgen Tour of California. Said CANIDAE employee Jason Castillo, "We have committed to attending more national events throughout the year promoting Responsible Pet Ownership, and supporting local independent pet food retailers while raising funds for cancer research in pets at the same time."

CANIDAE helps take a bite out of crime by providing law enforcement agencies across the country with food for their canine units. The company also officially donated a Belgian Malinois named Baco to the Pomona Police Department's Canine Unit this past March. At Colorado's Copper Mountain Ski Resort, a CANIDAE-sponsored Golden Retriever named Cascade accompanies the ski patrol team on back country avalanche search and rescue missions.

Last December, the company donated a percentage of their sales of CANIDAE PLATINUMĀ® dog food to The Grey Muzzle Organization which provides funding and resources to shelters, rescues, and sanctuaries that have programs for senior dogs. And in support of those who are dedicated to the health and welfare of animals, they awarded $10,000 in veterinary scholarships for each of the last two years.

CANIDAE also donates their premium-quality pet food to the freekibble.com and freekibblekat.com websites, which in turn delivers it free of charge to shelters across the country. These inspirational (and incredibly successful) charity sites were founded by a 12-year old girl from Oregon, who simply wanted to help feed the hungry animals at her local animal shelter. The far-reaching achievements of Freekibble.com is a perfect example of how great things can happen if we just dare to dream, and then believe that we can turn those dreams into a reality.

So you see, there are things in life that are free. And thanks to kindhearted companies like CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods, many dogs, cats and pet lovers nationwide are receiving them!

Very well put, Julia. With so many shelters taking in more pets because of the economy, it's nice seeing a pet food company willing to help out with donations of food. I'm sure they can use every bit they get. Way to go, Canidae.
