Cankers and Vitamin C, it May Be the Relief You've Been Looking For

I've had cankers unfortunately all my life. I was born with the canker virus and I'm not sure if it was my mom or dad who I inherited from. You can't catch cankers like the way you could catch a cold from kissing. They aren't contagious. None the less my parents would take me to the doctors to see if there was anything new they could prescribe or suggest to help the duration and pain of the mouth ulcers. See with a canker virus even the simplest things can cause a breakout resulting in pain for more than a week each time. Imagine only being able to drink a glass of orange juice every few days. How about pizza or chocolate, eat too much and you'll pay later with a sore mouth.

Home remedies didn't work to help healing such as putting a tea bag on the canker area or rinsing the mouth with milk of magnesia. And over the counter products ended up burning my mouth. A canker is bad enough but adding a liquid medicine that starts to burn away is just crazy. Almost every person I've talked to always suggested items such as "Kanka" by Blistex. I was then turned to prescription pills of 3 pills a day, 7 days a week. At first the prescription did work but then later needed a higher dose. Unfortunately the cankers won over that battle.

It wasn't until my trip to Mexico that I was informed I might have a vitamin C deficiency. Sure I thought, I avoid many items having vitamin C due to the outbreaks from enjoying those items. I had assume my multi-vitamin was giving me enough vitamin C. Oddly enough the reason for seeing another doctor while on my trip to Mexico was because a previous doctor had giving me an oral mouthwash medicine. He claimed the medicine was very good and would stop cankers from popping up again. After you've suffered many years from them, you're more opened minded. The medicine in less than a week started to give me more than a couple of cankers. Worried I went back and asked if they were to start getting worse before my mouth would become better. He said that wasn't how it works and was unsure why that result was happening.

Frustrated we went and saw a women doctor. Instantly she knew after hearing my ordeal with trying to find relief that I had the virus without even mentioning that factor. She told me to get an extra supple of Vitamin C and to make sure to take it everyday. Also to make sure the Vitamin C contained Rose Hips. Rose Hips are the fruit of the rose plant. It is currently the most concentrated form of Vitamin C that you can get. She didn't insist on over the counter products because she explained that using them can actually burn the area causing the canker to take even more time to heal. I was skeptical at first but since using the extra supplement, I've had a lot less cankers than before and also the canker healing time is reduced. Vitamin C supplements aren't expensive. Wal*Mart has some supplements that are affordable. If you can't find relief, ask your doctor first to see if you can take an extra Vitamin C supplement.
