Canon G11 Digital Camera

The Canon G11- Not Just Another Digital but a Means to Your Soul

Robert Cooper
When I first became interested in digital photography my main concerns were in finding that perfect digital camera that was small and sporty along with being virtually automatic so even a newbie like me could capture the moment with ease. Little did I know at the time that that ease of use camera, while meeting my initial needs, just wouldn't suit the discriminating digital camera photographer I was becoming.

Like with most sports as the athlete becomes more skilled and knowledgeable they desire more user controlled design refined equipment so when you admire your work you indeed know that the perfect image you have just taken could not be duplicated by another photographer no matter how professional they might be.

The photographer is no exception. In fact, the designer and choreographer of each captured moment might just have an ego unrivaled by most individual composers. So you are now a digital camera photographer, not a kid snaping for fun but a person with images sought by others and possibly adorned on walls other than your own home.

What qualifies you for this title of distinction? One might say the eye, one might say creative ability, or one might say that great machine that lets you snap once all the other necessities come into alignment. The answer to perfection is the Canon G11. What you say? Just what could the G11 have that would become an extension of oneself? The response is as complex as it is simplistic, or would be if you become personal with the Canon Digital Camera line.

The Canon line is known and respected for value, durability, and for the capacity to take care of the owner rather than the other way around. The Canon G11 offers durability and great image capturing ability without the bulk.

The Canon G11 has an expanded dynamic range and I-Contrast technology, which prevents high-light blowout as it retains low-light detail - ideal for difficult lighting situations. The G11 has a wide angle (28mm) zoom with an optical Image Stabilizer. Image Stabilization means a greater ability to capture in slower shutter speeds so darkness is not a limitation and a tripod is not a must. This alone benefits the photographer by lightening the load so to speak offering space to more important pieces of equipment.

So ranking wise where would you place the G11? The Canon G11 is so amazing it is a perfect street camera with more discretion then a DSLR but so profound that you can proudly announce that you own an upgrade from those common point-and-shoot cameras that the amateur photographer use. While it is true that you can't just slide it into your pants pocket that is actually a positive because you will love this digital camera so much you will want it over your shoulder within your reach at all times.

The real magic of this camera lies in the dedicated control dials. The three dials located on top of the camera are exposure compensation, ISO speed, and shooting mode. At first they seemed a bit small but after minimal usage the snap they make as you rotate them is surprisingly crisp and satisfying. You almost begin to yearn for it like just hearing the sound increases the excitement of knowing another masterpiece is about to be born. Actually, having these dials at your finger tips at all times is so much of why the G11 feels like a digital that is more than a step above the point-and-shoot it is a tool for creating captured life moments, images of the soul.

Face it! You deserve the best! You deserve the respect that the Canon G11 will give you. For a great machine under $500 you will have many years of exciting extreme photography to admire. I am certain that the G11 will get equally excited about being in your hand as you do. The greatness cannot be put into words... it must be felt.
