Canon Powershot A620 Digital Camera Gets 9/10 Rating: Product Review

McMillen
There are so many digital cameras available it is difficult to know which one to buy! After much research, I chose the Canon Powershot A620, and I am not disappointed with it. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it an 9, and I'll tell you why.

1. Great price for the features
I bought my Canon a few months ago for about $320, but now you can get a new one on Amazon for under $300. The camera has a 7-megapixel CCD which can take photo quality 15 x 20-inch pics. I was amazed at the tiny details it captures, especially in bright, outdoor pictures. It can take movies at 60 frames a second. The display is 2 inches and you can even flip it out and turn it to face you while you take a picture of yourself if you want! It has a 4X zoom, but with that many megapixels you don't really need more than that. I could not find another name brand camera with this many features for as low a price.

2. Good size for a personal camera
If you are looking for a personal camera that is easy to take on hikes or to events, this is a great size, and it's not too heavy. It weighs 12.8 oz and is 4 x 2.5 x 1.8 inches. The camera, cords and extra batteries fit nicely into a small carrying case. I rarely even carry extra batteries because it does not seem to use them up as fast as other digital cameras I have had.

3. Lots of color and focus options
I like to get creative with my photography, and I am often taking pictures of my fiance's band playing at dark smoky bars. I can capture the lighting I want by adjusting the shutter speed and flash myself to get great pictures. I can get motion shots with no blur if I want, and with 20 settings plus several custom options I can switch back and forth easily from my own settings to the auto mode.

4. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon.com
I always check out consumer reviews before buying a product, and this high of a rating on Amazon speaks for itself. This rating is currently compiled from almost 300 different reviews. This means the camera holds up well across the board, and there have been few complaints from people who have bought one.

5. Very easy to operate
Except for high school yearbook, I have never taken a photography class and had used mainly disposable cameras up to the point where I bought this one. I had no trouble figuring out how to use it, and I have gotten more advanced at my photography skills just by playing around with the different options. I have had it for about 6 months and still have not had the need to read the manual, but maybe one day I will get around to it!

DOWNSIDES...
There aren't many downsides to this camera, but I do have trouble getting it to focus sometimes on really close-up shots. I tried to take a picture of my eye and did not succeed. I have been able to take some close up pictures of flowers, but if you are looking for detail on tiny objects you probably want something else. Sometimes the flash is too bright on the automatic setting, but that can be adjusted if you take it off automatic. There are so many features that I am still wondering what some of them do, but I am sure I could figure it all out if I sat down with the manual. All in all, a great camera!
