Canon PowerShot SD1200 is Camera Review

Timings and Shutter Lag: SD1200 is fast, it takes very short time to auto focus. Within 0.37 after the button is hit, the picture is taken. In its single frame mode it can shoot the pictures very fast.

The focusing is very quick even if light is dim or you are shooting at wide angles. In telephoto mode it takes more than one second to focus. In telephoto mode it may not focus at all in dim light.

Auto Focus: Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS has two auto focus modes. This has newer AiAF technology. The zoom is quiet and speedy, but not very quick to respond. It takes between 2 and 3 seconds to zoom completely in and out. Its 3x optical zoom is usually sufficient for most of the photography.

Image Stabilization: This camera has its image stabilization system to get rid of the shaking while shooting photographs

Picture Quality:

To judge the performance of Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS camera for picture quality, you have to shoot at diverse focal lengths and aperture openings. This will reveal the corner sharpness, overall sharpness and chromatic aberrations in the picture. Using the camera at various ISO settings can show the noise level in dim light. The corners are a bit blurred like those with SD1100. But this is not much noticeable and the overall picture has sharpness and colors are lovely.

There is no nosie at ISO 80 or 100. It increases IS0 200 onwards. Above ISO 800 it is worst.

If you go for the size 6 by 4 and 5 by 7, you will not experience the noise at ISO 800. With ISO 80-100, one can print up to 13 by19 inch which will have nice features. Overall picture quality is worth the size and price of the camera.
