Canon announced the release of the PowerShot SX100 IS, the first digital camera model from the new SX super zoom series.

PowerShot SX100 IS is offering a 10x optical zoom, with an optical image stabiliser, an 8 Megapixel resolution, and a Digic III processor, that confer a high quality for the images that are taken with the device.

The improved Face Detection Technology functions, Red-Eye Correction, and Auto ISO Shift, help users of any skill level reach impressive performances. There is no need for professional training, or technical abilities in using the device, basically amateur photographers, can reach the level of professionals when using it.

The Face Detection Technology functions have now in addition to the ones on the previous devices, the FACE Select and Track function, and a FACE Selector button.

The camera is equipped with a 2.5 inch, LCD color screen, which allows users to watch in real time the objective they want to capture. Users have 18 picture taking modes available, that offer a total manual control of the image.

Finally, the device is designed with a Digital Tele-Converter, and a Safety Zoom feature, that offer additional help in when trying to take high quality pictures.

Users can have the images ready for blog posting, on-line image galleries, or e-mail using the new Image Resize function. This function allows users to resize large images of 1600x1200, 640x480, and 320x240 pixels resolution, directly from the camera, without the need of any additional software, or a computer. This feature is very useful when the memory of the camera is limited, and users find themselves out of space when trying to store new pictures on it.

The PowerShot SX100 IS is compatible with the HC MMCplus memory cards, this way users can take memory cards from other devices such as mobile phones, or MP3 players, and place them in the digital camera. Having such a way of switching memory cards between devices, not only helps the user when out of memory, but also make it easier when trying to transfer pictures from the camera to other devices, such as a mobile phone, that can be used to transfer them on to the Internet.

Canon officials claim that with the PowerShot SX100 IS, a new age is beginning in the world of digital cameras, and that the goal of the device is to make it easier for people to take high quality pictures without any professional background, but also providing a great tool for professionals.
