Canon announced the release of the newest single-lens reflex digital camera for amateur or semi professional photographers, the EOS 40D. The new model has a 10,1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, capable of a 6,5 shots per second speed. The device is also equipped with an automatic focus system, and a 3 Live View LCD screen.

The camera uses the new EOS techology presented by Canon this year, with the EOS-1D Mark III release. The Canon DIGIC II processor allows fast photo processing, an advanced color processing, and also increasing significantly the boot up speed of the device.

The EOS Integrated Cleaning System makes impossible the gathering of dust particles on the objective. The camera has a strong magnesium ally cover, which protects it against accidents, and rough conditions. This ensures a longer life of the device when used frequently, and in different environment conditions.

The device is also equipped with a 9 sensor AF system, adjustable Picture Style processing feature.

The Wireless File Transmitter, WTF-E3, which is designed to work together with the EOS 40D, allows a fast transfer of the images stored on the device on to FTP servers, but also supports the PTP and HTTP protocols. In the HTTP mode, the users can download the images on the digital Web cam using a web browser. The PTP mode is used for taking pictures and transfering them using Wi-Fi technology on to another device.

These features are extremely useful for photographers that want to share their pictures with their friends on the Internet, or want to transfer them on their computer without the need of a card reader, FireWire, USB or another related device.

For long photo sessions, the WTF-E3 can be connected using the wireless network to external hard disk drives. If connected to a GPS receptor, EXIF data can be added to each picture containing the location where it was taken.

The camera has a special design, that allows taking pictures vertically, without the need of the photographer to change body position. This feature is extremely useful when such a situation occurs, when the camera can not be placed in another position.

As said before, the digital camera was made with the intention of allowing amateurs and semi professionals to take high quality photos, without the need of experience or training. The device configures itself, and determines what is needed to obtain a top quality picture, leaving the user the decision of the time to take it.
