Giving the car back
This might be one of your first decisions that you contemplate on to get out of your car payment but it may not be a wise one. If you were to give your car back you may still owe money to the bank and you will get a bad mark on your credit report for returning the car. Another option that many people choose when they realize that they can't make their car payment is to purchase a different car from the same company, one with a lower monthly payment. Getting another car may cause you to go into deeper debt since many car companies tack on the first car to the end of the new car. Even though your car payments are lower you might still be paying a lot more in the long run since you will be paying on the beginning of another car and your payments will go on longer than it would of if you just kept and paid off the first car.
Selling your car
One option that a lot of people forget about is selling their car to get out from under their car payment. If you sell your car for the amount that you owe then you can pay the car off and get out from underneath it. Selling the car is easy and if you plan on doing this then you need to explain the circumstances to the individual that you plan on selling to. If you can't get the amount out of it that you need to pay off the car then you can always pay the remaining balance to cover the car loan.
Get others to help pay for the car
This is one of my favorite options since you will be able to keep the car. How this works is that you share the car with someone and split the payment or at least have them to pay a portion of the car payment. Getting others to help pay for the car is a wonderful option and a lot of people do this without ever telling the other person that this is what they are doing. You can ask a friend if they need to borrow your car and charge them a small price for doing it so that you can make your car payment. Even five dollars a day to borrow your car plus the gas, will help to pay it off.

Post a CommentI like the last idea the most. People should share vehicles more often. I'd be willing to do that if I had a very good friend or relative living nearby. Wonderful idea!
