I feel your frustration with what should be a simple installation of a free PDF reader. I have never had problems before with installing any Adobe application. But Adobe has gone and juiced up the free version with more functionality and despite multiple tries, my laptop would just not download the larger file size of Adobe Reader 9.0. After hours of tinkering, I finally gave up on the idea of trying to install Adobe Reader 9.0.
Stop Downloading Adobe Reader 9.0 If You're Having Installation Problems
I am a non-techie person but was able to quickly resolve the problem once I realized the solution lay in installing someone else's free PDF reader instead. The solution outlined below should save you from similar frustrations. The next few paragraphs are simply a run through and confirmation of the kinds of issues I had that you may be having as well with your computer. You may want to just skip ahead to the solution offered below under "Installing an Alternative Free PDF Reader".
Free PDF Reader - Adobe Reader 9.0
All you want to do is to read a PDF file off the internet. You're stopped dead in your tracks when the PDF you click suggests installing a new version of Adobe Reader 9.0. You go to the Adobe Acrobat site and click on the free PDF reader download of Adobe Reader 9.0. Thing are clicking on fairly well with the download of Adobe Reader 9.0 until at around 99% download, nothing seems to be happening. You wait a good 20-30 minutes and still nothing. So you decide to close out and start over again.
Problems Downloading Adobe Reader 9.0
Now you feel like you're getting totally side tracked because a half an hour has gone by and all you want to do is read the gosh darn file and now your computer is hung up on getting this free PDF reader installed. Damn you Adobe Reader 9.0. Even after shutting down all applications and restarting your computer you're still stalled. Now it seems virtually impossible to delete what's been downloaded.
Windows Uninstaller Solution Did Not Work For Me
Many of the computer forums suggested downloading Windows Uninstaller to help delete a partial download of Adobe Reader 9.0. However, this is where my problem with Adobe Reader 9.0 didn't get any better. I then had difficulty installing Windows Uninstaller as well. There's the rub, the very program I need to help me uninstall Adobe Reader 9.0 can't be installed as well. Ughhh.
Installing an Alternative Free PDF Reader
For most people, all they need is a basic program that will allow them to simply read PDF files. They don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles that the latest version of Adobe Reader 9.0 offers. I found a free PDF viewer called "PDF XChange Viewer". The download took mere minutes, the install not much longer. When I went to open a PDF document from Internet Explorer, there was nothing special required, PDF XChange Viewer seamlessly automatically opened the file working similarly to other previous versions of Adobe Acrobat PDF Readers. So as far as free, no fuss functionality without the hassle of installing Adobe Reader 9.0, I would highly recommend "PDF XChange Viewer".

Post a Commenti just tried it and it worked...thank you so much for the advice. take care.
What seems to be the problem !!!!!!
If you want to install Adobe Reader without battling through the minefield that Adobe has set on their official website, why not try an alternative 3rd party Freeware download site?, such as http://en.kioskea.net/download/download-46-adobe-reader
Totally agree with what you say about the Adobe download site. Do they actually want anyone to download their product? I have never been able to download anything from there. Last time I tried my computer froze up and I had to press the reset button on my PC. If you are reading this Adobe, why not make things a bit easier???
What great advise. I am now able to read my acrobat files.
I didn't install it yet, but I would like to add my thanks for the alternative you offered
