Can't View Secure Websites? Here's How to Fix It!

Solve the Problem of Viewing Secure Websites

The Armchair Geek
You may sometimes encounter a problem where you cannot view secure websites with browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Netscape. There are several reasons why you would have this problem, and there are many methods for fixing it. Here's one of them:

First, diagnose the problem. To do this, you will have to first see if your web browser refuses to open all secure websites or just one.
*If Internet Explorer refuses to open just one website, then the problem may be within that particular website's secure certificate.
*If the problem occurs with all websites, then you may have a problem with Internet Explorer. You may receive an Internet Explorer security alert telling you that the security certificate has expired and not yet valid. If you receive this warning, you will first need to check your date and time settings. Here's how to do it:
=>Double-click the time on the bottom-right corner of your screen.
Correct any possible errors with your date and time and click OK.
Now try opening the secure website you tried to access earlier.

If you still cannot access the website, try checking the settings for your antiviral software and firewall. You may need to reset the privacy controls and security settings on your antiviral. Each antiviral application has a unique interface, so we will use Norton Personal Firewall as an example. Here's how to reset privacy controls for Norton Personal Firewall.

*First, open Norton Personal Firewall.
*Click the Privacy Control button located in the right pane. After that, click Configure.
*Select the Default level and click OK.
*Next, reboot your computer and try to open the secured site. You may need to temporarily disable your firewall to see if you can access the site. If you can access the secured site while your firewall is disabled, you probably need to reinstall your firewall.

You may also need to check your browser's cipher strength. Here's how
*Open Internet Explorer and then click About. You will find a section labeled Cipher Strength on the Internet Explorer About screen.
*If the Cipher Strength of Internet Explorer is anything but 128-bit, then the problem may lie within Internet Explorer's security settings.

If you are still unable to view secure sites, you may need to download a program called IEFix. IEFix is a general purpose application that is developed specifically to repair problems with Internet Explorer. It can be downloaded from here.
*Click Save to save the program to your desktop.
*Run the program and click on the Apply button to fix problems with Internet Explorer.
*After you do this, try to run the secure site.
