Cape Cod Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper Kettle-Cooked Potato Chips: A Review

Tara Cellars
Recently I have started trying to find healthy alternatives to the things that my husband and I love to eat. My husband has high blood pressure and high cholesterol, so it is very important to limit things like potato chips and fried food. I was at Love's Country Store last night around midnight and I wanted to get a Subway sandwich. My husband was looking through the chips trying to find something tasty but also a healthier option. He found a bag of Cape Cod Kettle-Cooked Potato Chips. He chose the sea salt and cracked pepper chips because they were both natural, but also a healthier option.

I started examining the bag and found that they are not a bad option because they are cooked in canola oil, which is an excellent source for Omega 3 Fatty acid. Cooking in this makes it more heart healthy that some chips out there. The bag of chips had two servings in it. It had no cholesterol in it, which is great! They do have 6 grams of fat per serving, and also 160 mg of sodium. This is still very good when compared to other brands. For example Doritos, Nacho Cheese, have more sodium and more fat, per serving. Doritos are also cooked in vegetable oil.

My husband purchased the bag of chips and when we got home he opened the bag. The chips had a very good aroma, and they looked very appetizing. We split the bag between the two of us and tried the chips. We both agreed that they had a very good flavor. They are a little spicy, but we like that. The chips are only lightly coated with the sea salt and cracked pepper. The chips were not overly seasoned like some; they are also nice and crisp making the texture excellent. They are also very reasonably priced; I bought this bag for only 99 cents.

Overall these chips are great in many ways. They will be an excellent addition to a healthy lifestyle. Even though the fat and sodium content are better, the Cape Cod family will be used in moderation. Any snack foods should be an occasional treat. Cape Cod also has many other exciting varieties I am looking forward to trying. These include Buttermilk Ranch, Jalapeno and Cheddar, and Parmesan and Roasted Garlic. If you are looking for a chip or snack food that is a healthier option and you don't want to skimp on taste, try Cape Cod's variety of chips.
