Cape May County Park and Zoo Offers an Abundance of Outdoor Recreation Year Round

Following in the footsteps of his predecessor, President Barack Obama has once more given the White House seal of approval that June be celebrated as Great Outdoors Month.

The annual Presidential proclamation, which was first issued in 1997 by former President Clinton, encourages Americans to take advantage of outdoor recreation activities that can be found throughout the country.

America's 52 states, which are dotted with State and County Parks, are ideal locations for taking advantage of the Great Outdoors Month in June. From water-related activities such as swimming, fishing, or white water rafting to hiking, rock climbing or trekking through mountains by bike or on foot there is much to do and see across the American landscape.

The Cape May County Park and Zoo, which is located on Route 9 and Crest Haven Road in Cape May, NJ, is one of my family's favorite day trip venues. Situated on 200-acres of land, the park offers an assortment of recreational activities including nature trails suitable for walkers, joggers or bikers, tennis and volleyball courts, baseball fields, fresh water fishing and a playground.

The Zoo, which is open to the public year-round except on Christmas, is incredible. It includes an Amphibian and Reptile House showcasing a variety of species both large and small, The World of Birds exhibit, which duplicates the lush tropical environment found in nature, is home to a variety of birds and The African Savannah, a 57-acre African habitat, where visitors can enjoy watching the comings and goings of Charlie Camel, Jerome Giraffe, Brutus & Tinker-bell Cougar, Max & Ellie Lion and the many other animals living at the zoo.
