The once forgotten archipelago, Cape Verde, located in the Atlantic Ocean about 300 or so miles off the west coast of Africa, is catching the eyes of, tourist, investors and developers. Cape Verde islands are gaining recognition, and evolving into a growing vacation hot spot.

Tourist are soaking up the natural beauty of the islands, its beaches that line the coast of each island, and the breathtaking mountains that surround it all.

Windsurfers can enjoy near perfect winds from November through June, the island of Sal has been a popular destination for windsurfers for years. The winds in Cape Verde are strong, consistent, and speak for themselves when compared with other destinations.

Santa Maria is the main area for those who love to ride the surf. More experienced and serious wave riders should visit Punta Preta's west side because it has wave peaks up to eight feet, don't let the sandy white beaches fool you Punta Preta is an advanced windsurfer's paradise.

Sal and kitesurfing have become synonymous, and Santa Maria beach is perfect for all kite surfing levels because the conditions there are excellent for beginner kite surfers and the more experienced.

Cape Verde Reef, Cave, and Wreck Diving
Diving on Sal is popular, reef divers, cave diving, and wreck dives are magical. With 25 sites for diving on Sal, Cape Verde there is a lot to explore including wrecks at a depth of 10m. Beginners can take advantage of free diving lessons in Cape Verde hotel pools. Everyday day of the year is a dive day. See tuna, mackerel, grouper, reef fish, and in the late summer swim with mantas, barracudas, morays, sting-rays, and maybe even a sand tiger. The waters are filled with many fish and shellfish.

Thanks to Sir Frances Drake there are many a ship wrecks to investigate in these waters, and the Cecile, Italy's own Titanic, rest within the Cape Verde's diving depths. Investors and developers have taken a serious interest in the islands of Cape Verdi, and tourism is increasing. And it is reported that in the first quarter of 2010 Delta airlines will begin flights to Cape Verde which is big. A lot is happening behind the scenes.

Names such as Ernie Els and Jack Nicklaus have been connected to Cape Verde; golf course designs, golf greens that are PGA certified and suitable for international competition, and developments are putting those 10 forgotten islands off the west coast of Africa on the map.
