Capricorn Gardening and Food

December 22 to January 19

Capricorn begins the winter. Always steadfast and practical, the Capricorn likes simple and earthy.

Capricorn Gardening

Summer gardens of Capricorn include fieldstone pathways among neat rows of pole beans, radicchio and cucumbers. A conscientious and disciplined person, the Capricorn strives for a long growing season and a full year, so spinach, arugula, turnips, cabbages, winter squash and chicory grace the fall selections.

Being a serious and organized soul, creating formal plantings of tulips and daffodils in the spring warms the heart. Flower gardening beds will be immaculately trimmed and mulched with clumps of blooming flowers in multiple colors all summer long. Fresh cut flowers will grace the entrance and dining table in the home.

Capricorn Food

Preferring simple foods, never feed the Capricorn exotic dishes. They are happy with plain parsley and cloves or garlic for flavor. They are also partial to substantial foods that will fill them up. Comfort foods such as hearty soups, meatloaf or stews with potatoes, gravies, corn, peas and homemade breads with cake and ice cream for dessert satisfy the soul. Dinners are always served with the best china and silver.

Capricorn Personality

The sign of the "high roller", Capricorn is regarded as the zodiac's top, but also quiet, life and business achievers. However, there are two very different types.

First - The mountain goat, always climbing higher and higher, never content until reaching the top.

Second - The garden goat, with little adventurous spirit or ambition. The second, just being happy to remain within a small domain, refusing to budge unless it is pushed.

Either type of Capricorn is patient and persevering. They reach their goals because they know the longest journey begins with a single step and the first step is always the most difficult.

Capricorns must try to balance work with play, otherwise they can become too one-sided and work can replace true personal emotional fulfillment. Forever climbing the mountain of success, they rise to the occasion when faced with a new task or deadline. Although conservative and cautious, Goats are willing to try unusual approaches on their road to success. Romantically, they desire a permanent relationship with someone who will give them the affection they crave.

In their truest expression, Capricorns are ambitious, practical and superb organizers. Although may are borderline workaholics, this does not make them dull and gloomy. They have an offbeat sense of humor which comes up at the most unexpected moments. Their motivating force in life is success, money, status, authority and love. Once they feel "safe" with their partner, the cool exterior melts away to reveal a sensitive and loyal heart. As a friend, they can be relied upon to provide the strongest and most sympathetic pair of shoulders in the zodiac.

Life pursuit is "to be proud of their achievements" and secret desire is "to be admired by their family and friends and the world at large".

You are right on when it comes to personality traits, but this Capricorn loves exotic foods and is not afraid to try new and interesting dishes. I have a tomato and pepper garden in my back yard, and 2 flower beds in the front that have marigolds, gardenias, azaleas, impatiens and pansies. Very interesting!
