Captivating Super Bowl Win by the Steelers

The Super Bowl got off to an exciting start - the first good drive on behalf of the Steelers ended only in a field goal, after a botched touchdown attempt. Roethlisberger tried, but his knees just didn't stay up and past the magical little goal line.

Arizona's first drive didn't yield anything at all, definitely no points, and the game progressed as any game does - with runs and passes and everything in between.

Tensions seemed to be running high on both sides - the hits got a little hard in the first half, and climaxed in a minor skirmish. It always seems to me that hockey and football fights run along the same lines: too many pads to do any good. In any case, that skirmish seemed to end any tensions between the teams, and the rest of the game, players seemed eager to help others up, regardless of the jerseys that they wore.

However, at the beginning of the second half, Pittsburgh found the goal line - again - and this time, it really was a touchdown, leaving the score at 10-0. Arizona returned the favor with a touchdown after an 83 yard drive, again narrowing the gap. It almost seemed as if Arizona got their hope back - until an amazing 100 yard return by James Harrison with only seconds left. I could not believe that a man that large could run that fast and make it through all of those defenders. It really seemed to be the best play of the game, and I don't think that anyone will deny that, among the Steelers, Harrison should be a nominee for MVP.

I'll be honest. I basically tuned out the third quarter. No doubts - it was boring. No fights, no major controversies, and most importantly: no touchdowns. A field goal? Come on. The millions(er, billions... trillions?) of dollars spent on advertising means the game is supposed to be interesting.

Enter the fourth quarter. Arizona found their metaphorical balls, it seemed, as they scored a touchdown. And suddenly, they're back to fighting. Roethlisberger? First sack. Ike Taylor? Personal foul for a blatant swing at a Cardinals player. It's like the Steelers took their stupid pills and gave Arizona some skills. Let's face it: the game got close after that Arizona touchdown. And man, did it show - Arizona back on their game, and Steelers on edge from the stress. Suddenly, all of those silly little penalties become so much more important. It's here, where every move a player makes will be recorded in history.

And then? Arizona lost their fuel. They just couldn't come back from the holding charge - the third one on Ganoy for the game. They punt. Flag on the kick. And suddenly, the Steelers have it on the one yard line. All because Harrison, for some reason, couldn't refrain from an extreme personal foul during the kick.

The near safety during the Steelers possession. Tensions rising even more as the clock ticks ever slowly down. Can they get out of the endzone? Holmes catches, and suddenly? A safety. With three minutes left, Arizona gets the ball back. Touchdown Arizona, and suddenly, they're ahead for the first time in the game. With barely any time left, the Steelers' chance is getting smaller and smaller.

Two minutes left, great drive to a touchdown by Holmes, cinching the sure victory for the Steelers.

It was close for the Cardinals, but no one can really beat the dynamic team of the Steelers. From the kicker, to Roethlisberger, to Holmes and Ward and Palomalu, the power and creativity that drives the Steelers was just too much for the Cardinals to handle. Six time Super Bowl champions, the Steelers win it. Again.
