Brake Systems:
An inspection for damaged, worn or missing parts is checked on all brake systems. There will be an inspection of wheels and drums. A check is done to make sure that there are proper fluid levels. There should be no leaks of any kind. Plus, they will make sure that the parking brake works.
Lights:
There will be an inspection of all lights on the car. All bulbs must be working. There will be a check to make sure that the proper bulbs are being used. The driving and fog lamps must be aimed right. There will be an inspection that the signal devices work correctly. Also the interior lights of the dashboard will be checked to make sure they are working right.
Tires:
An inspection of the tires will be done. They must not be damaged or cracked. The tread depth will be checked to make sure that the tires are not going bald. Wheels and rims will also be checked to make sure they are in good condition.
Other Inspections:
There will be other inspections to make sure that the car meets all the safety regulations. One of those inspections may include inspections of the windshield, windshield wiper, and defroster. They might check the cars license tags to make sure they are up to date. Another inspection could be of the horn to make sure it is loud enough, and that it works correctly.
Emissions:
In states that require Emissions regulations there will be an inspection of the exhaust system. That is the inspection of the main exhaust line. That would include the inspection of the muffler, manifold, connections, and gaskets. There will be a check to make sure there is no leakage of gases.

Post a CommentOne of the many reasons for moving from NJ to TN, as JLN said, none here, although that isn't necessarily a good thing - too many junk heaps on the roads!
very well written. Thanks for sharing
Good info. Cali had a simple smog test, then I moved to Texas and it became a big deal inspection. I really don't care what they look at as long as it passes!
Nice information. Tennessee doesn't have them, and I hope they never do. When I lived in Jersey, their DMV inspections were a nightmare (and expensive); they once failed my granny's Oldsmobile over a small tear in the carpet (said it was a 'trip hazard'!)
We've got one car at over 134,000 miles due to careful inspections. Important info you've written here!
