The best way to insure that your car stays on the road, and doesn't always break down and cost you a lot of money to repair, is to do the simple things like tuneups, and oil changes, letting a tuneup go can cause you to have to replace a catalytic converter.
Not changing your oil on a regular basis can cause your engine to wear at a high rate of speed, if you were to do something as simple as upgrading to synthetic oil on your next oil change, you could extend the life of your engine significantly.
If you were to make sure that you change your oil every 6,000 miles for synthetic oil, or every 2,500 for fossil based oil, you could insure that your engine would last for a long time to come, also you should change your air cleaner every 2,500 miles.
Sometimes it's not about the big things, it's the small things that mike a huge difference in the end, this is why people are under the impression that import car last longer, they last longer because people pay more for them, so they maintain them better.
It hasn't got a single thing to do with them building a better car, we have done experiments at shops that I have worked at, and we have proven that it's all about the maintenance you do on the car, if you want to drive it for a lot of miles maintain it the right way.
Maintenance is quite simple to do, all you have to do is pay attention to the need of your car, keep track of the oil changes, and maintain the coolant level in the radiator, have your brakes inspected on a regular basis.
I have said this before, and I'll say it again, you need to make 100% sure that you are diligent about maintaining your car, if you approach this with a systematic regularity, you can be sure that your car will last for a long time to come.
If you depend on your car, then by all rights it should be able to depend on you for the small things, so make sure that you have it checked on a regular basis, and don't lo, OK for reasons not to do this, or you will pay in the end.
You should always do the things that you mechanic tells you to do to keep your car on the road, if you don't trust your mechanic to be honest and not rip you off, it's time to find a new mechanic for your car, a good mechanic will only tell you the things that are a must to fix.
If you need help finding a good mechanic, ask you friends, and other people that your know for a reference on a good mechanic, there are sill good shops to be found if you look, I have a great shop that I take my truck to, and I have been going there for years.
