Car Maintenance for a Woman

Keep Your Car Safe

Kitty Stevens
Keeping your car safe is important to me as a woman today. I can't tell you how many times I have been out by myself and wondered if I was safe. One day I decided to get serious about this subject and this is what I learned and now practice. Read this article and learn how to keep your car safe.

First, consider the car you have as to what is important. Some cars have more risks than others. You have to learn everything you can about your particular car. That is so easy to do. Here is what you do. First of all, go get the guide out of your glove box. Now, check out the back of that book. It generally has a list of things to maintain in order to be safe.

Next, go get the guide that an auto parts store sells that covers your car in detail. That way, when you go get your car inspected at the auto shop, you will not get "played" by the shop. Show them that you know what you are doing. Now read the book from cover to cover to get all of the details on your specific vehicle. You will learn that your particular make and model of car has this or that to watch out for. Those things go a long way.

Now, you will learn to check the fluids in your car. You must know how to check the tire pressure and the general health of the tires. Blow-outs are a very big issue on the highway, and you do not want to have that happen. You want to look for stress marks in the tire and holes and punctures. Do this every week as you go out in your car. This will help you keep your car safe. From there you want to ensure that all oil and fluid levels are as they should be. There you go. You have the basics. If you have any scheduled maintenance, use it. Do not forget to maintain the vehicle. It is your lifeline to keeping your car safe.

You also need to be aware that the lights on the vehicle are important. You must be sure to clean the headlights to ensure that your ability to see well at night is optimal. I can not stress this enough. The distance that the light will reach is so important. So clean them with some general generic cleaner. Make sure the bulbs are lit well as this can also show if your battery is fully charged and healthy for the drive.

All of these things are really important; but they are especially important before a road trip. Always get your car serviced prior to a road trip. Get the tires rotated to ensure the proper wear and tear on the tread of the tire as well. Check those fluids and the lights. If you hear any squeaks or see anything that is abnormal from the typical behavior of your car, take it in to get that fixed. Do not hesitate. Doing so can cost you much, much more in the long run. Get the car fixed straight away when things get strange and you will always do better financially. So, always do that and you will thank your self later. This is always of utmost importance before those road trips.

So what have we learned? First, you must know your car well. How do you do that? Read the manual. Yes, that is what it is for of course. You would be very surprised just how many people do not even know where their manual is. Read is, know it, and you will thank your self. Second, get an extended manual from the link provided above. This will help you maintain your car and keep your car safe. It has the added benefit of allowing you to re-sell the car later at a higher price as you maintained it properly. This is important. Third, you must know how to check the basics of your car. Things like fluids, tire pressure, battery power and general health. Keep those lights clean. Get the car inspected always before a road trip and you will keep your car safe. If you are a woman like me, this is very important. You have to be able to care for your own car and keep it safe.
