Car Repair 101

Car repair is an essential to keeping your car running like brand new again. Life always throws curve balls at us. It is always best to be one step of the game, especially when it comes to car maintenance.

There are things you should always have in your vehicle, no matter what the weather may be. You can never be too prepared for the unknown. Cars can be a pain in the butt. However keeping a few essential items on board with you, will be a life saver.

Duck Tape. It is true what they say about duck tape. It can be used in any sticky situation. Believe it or not you can reattach a muffler, or wires for a temporary fix til you reach your destination.

Jumper Cables. You don't want to be stuck somewhere without these in your trunk. From personal experience, I have been stuck somewhere with a young child without jumper cables. And believe me it was no fun.

Cell phone with full battery. Believe it or not, an old cell phone without a subscription can dial 911. This is good to have around.

Bottled water. This is an essential to have in your car. Why? You may be stuck somewhere and you will need to stay hydrated. Or your vehicle may over heat, and your engine will need water to keep it cool and running.

Maps. A detailed map of your area, or the United States will come in handy. It may seem silly. But believe me it isn't. If you are not good with directions, a map will become your best friend quickly. You wouldn't want to be stuck somewhere and not know where you are.

Baby wipes. These come in handy. They are not just for babies. They clean just about anything. I usually use it on my interior. It works wonders.

Safety tips-

Do not smoke while working on any vehicle, no matter what the circumstance may be. There are many chemicals in a vehicle, and if the car is running the cigarette can spark and cause a fire.

When jacking up a vehicle, be sure all wheels are blocked. This will ensure the car will not roll while you are working underneath it. Another tip to consider when jacking up the vehicle, make sure that the car is in park.

Do your homework before beginning any car repair, whether you are knowledgeable or not. Every car is different and may require different methods to repairing the vehicle. A car manual specific for your year and make is a great tool to have on deck.

There are so many things to keep in your vehicle. The key is to not have too much in the vehicle because of weight issues. Too much weight in the car, can cause the vehicle to have bad gas mileage. And you certainly do not want that. These aren't the only things to have. You can add anything that you will think you will need in an emergency. The key is to always be prepared for any type of emergency.
