Some people think of driving as entertainment while others consider it a mere necessity. There is no denying that driving has given many people a great feeling that ranges from contentment to excitement. Cars have taken such a great spot in our lives that singing about them seems perfectly right. Many great artists have been so
delighted by cars that they were inspired to write songs about them. Here are some of the best songs ever written about cars.
Little Deuce Coupe / The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys will hit this list a few times. They seem to have been one band that was totally inspired by their favorite cars. Little Deuce Coupe starts out the list because it is such a fun and light hearted song. Be sure it makes your list.
409 / The Beach Boys
In the 1960's it would have been considered totally groovy to be the proud owner of a 409. When the beach boys sang about saving their coins to eventually buy this car, many young men were able to totally relate. This song was written at a time when most people actually saved their money before purchasing a car. Those were the days!
Little Red Corvette / Prince
This song was a major hit when it first came out. Few things are as sleek and sexy as a beautiful little red Corvette. Prince must have thought his girlfriend was really something when he wrote this song. It's got a great beat and fun lyrics. It is definitely a song to add to your car songs library.
Mustang Sally / Wilson Pickett
Sally must have had the same feeling about her mustang that many of us feel towards our cars. It seems she liked to get around and get round pretty fast. This classic tune will get everyone singing and tapping their toes. Be sure to include it on any car songs disk you make.
Chevy Van / Sammy Johns
Here is a tune that might have been written with more inspiration from the girlfriend than the van. It is obvious from the lyrics that the van was special but, the real treasure was sleeping inside. This is a great old tune with catchy lyrics. It ranks up there with the best.
Hot Rod Lincoln / Commander Cody
Every time I hear this song, I get visions of a big Lincoln racing full speed down the road. This tune seems to be more of a favorite for the guys. There is something very masculine in the feel and lyrics of this song. It is one that every man will want in his car songs library.
Pink Cadillac / Bruce Springsteen
Bruce did a great job of giving this song the perfect style to complement the feel of a Cadillac. It is an almost lazy rock song with very smooth and uplifting lyrics. You could add this song along with a remake of it by Natalie Cole to your car songs list. Both versions of the tune are absolutely fantastic.
Mercury Blues / Steve Miller
Steve Miller can really do the blues up right. His guitar licks add a feel to this song that will get you slapping your knee and tapping your toes. It is a great tune that pours out a lot of love for the Mercury. Be sure not to miss this track when making up your list of favorite car songs.
Little GTO / The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys hit the perfect chord again when they put out this cute little number about their favorite car. The GTO was a screamer of a car and this song expressed that feeling perfectly. By adding the harmony and beat of The Beach Boys with the feel of a GTO, one gets the perfect combination for a great car tune. It will get your motor running and your feet shuffling.
Drive My Car / The Beatles
This song doesn't mention any specific make or model of car. It is just such a perfectly fun car song that it belongs on this list. The Beatles gave this tune a quick rhythm and fun lyrics. This tune will fit in perfectly with all the other songs in your car songs library. Be sure to include it for an extra smile when you listen.
There are many other driving and cruising songs that could have been included on this list. These songs were chosen because they were so obviously inspired by real cars. All you have to do is give this list a listen and you will remember that free feeling that getting behind the wheel of your favorite car can bring you.

Ok, I enjoyed your list so much that I came back to look it over again. :) Have to say that no list would be complete without Mustang Sally, and apparently you felt the same way and included it.
Some of these I am not so familiar with, but enjoyed the list.
What great selections Linda...great for crusing.
Car songs rock. "No Particular Place to Go" by chuck Berry would fit right in. You already have my favorites (Mustang Sally, and "Baby you can drive my Car")
Many bring back memories!
lol. I do drive in my car singing songs about driving cars!
Great list. Love several of them, including Hot Rod Lincoln.
What a great list. When I started reading it, I thought I'd get to add "Little GTO," a song I first came across when I was helping a friend put together some info on his GTO... but you had it! How about Woody Guthrie's "Take Me Riding in Your Car," a song for children?
Great work Linda!
