CARB and UCLA on the Rampage Against Enstrom

...And For What?

Lorraine Yapps Cohen
Jim Enstrom's job is on the line. A hearing, scheduled for April 4, will determine his future at UCLA. Twelve California legislators, led by Dan Logue, wrote UCLA's chancellor and provost, urging them against retaliation toward Enstrom.

Recall that Enstrom wrote a report indicating that diesel particulates have no effect on premature deaths. CARB didn't like his report and issued stiff diesel regulations anyway.

Turns out, these diesel regulations go into effect in two years. What this means for truckers is premature death for their business. A video explains the whole CARBoxious mess. Watch it here.

Let me summarize what CARB regulations will do.

Regulations require a reduction in diesel particulates emissions, which have been shown to have no effect on premature deaths.

Reducing particulate emissions requires a $15,000 retrofit on every diesel-powered truck.

On a cargo truck currently valued at $200,000, its value without the retrofit is reduced to $5,000.

In a trucking business whose owner has 18 trucks (for which he invested his life savings), another investment of $270,000 must be made for meeting CARB regulations in his fleet.

When such a trucking company opts not to make the investment, his fleet is devalued 98%...

....which essentially puts the trucking company flat out of business....for nothing,

....causes Jim Enstrom to lose his job at UCLA,

....puts other truckers out of business and onto the growing welfare rolls in California,

....makes it impossible to transport food, medicines, and goods to America's consumers,

....puts the state of California further underwater,

....and generally reduces the quality of life for just about everybody....

....except CARB. It made that organization feel powerful and important.

Maybe they are secretly working for mule salesmen, trying to bring back the horse pulled wagon days.

What cereal box exactly did this other gentleman get his degree? You talk about slanting stories. Just your language alone was very prejudicial. I have a feeling there is more to this than meets the eye. Your bias clearly shows through

Instead of investigating diesel fuel, the government should look at lifestyles of people. WE create our own death sentence by our lack of exercise and poor choice of eating habits.
