Carbon Dioxide, You Burn Me

An Ode to Climate Change

Johnathan Q. Moriarty
Once upon a midnight freezing

In the blizzard, wheezing, sneezing

A cold wind blew my hat off.

Shovels, ice, and snow,

How hard mother nature doth blow.

Why climate must you change so?

Ice melts and then...

I fear when the clouds gather overhead,

My mind spins with dread.

Those strange water droplets fall --

On me.

Why climate must you change so?

Wind and rain then go away

A hot and humid day.

Mosquitoes biting,

Sun high.

Naked arms and legs

Covered in strange lotion.

Why climate must you change so?

The trees are sick!

Their leaves do fall

I feel strange that I am drawn to their poisoned colors.

Xanthophyll, chlorophyll --

your exotic names beckon, twirl spin, jump.

Why climate must you change so?

I dare not breathe.
