Card Games for Children - I Doubt It

Card games are educational and build character in children. They can be used to teach analytical thinking and sportsmanship. This article will examine a time-tested and popular card game for children, I Doubt It.

Card Games for Children - I Doubt It - Specifications

I Doubt It is a favorite card game amongst children and takes considerable skill. This card game is always a hit at children's parties.

For six to twelve players and the most fun, use two regular card decks that have been shuffled together. For five or less players, use one regular card deck.

Card Games for Children - I Doubt It - Dealing

Deal all the cards out, two at a time, until they run out. Some children may have more cards than others and that's fine.

Card Games for Children - I Doubt It - Playing

The eldest hand begins by putting two or more cards face down on the table and saying, "Two aces" or whatever the number of cards is.

The number of cards must be stated and the player must say "aces" but the cards may be of any rank. The idea is to fool the other players into thinking that the cards are aces even if they aren't.

The next player to the left must then put two or more cards face down in the pile saying, "Two Kings" or whatever the number of cards is. The play continues this way, each player calling the next lower rank. (When the players get to "twos" they start over again with "aces".)

If a player names the wrong rank on their turn, for example saying "Queens" instead of "Kings", they must take up all the cards from the pile and add them to their hand.

Card Games for Children - I Doubt It - Doubting

After each person plays their card, any other player can say, "I doubt it". The last cards played must then be turned over and exposed. If any of them are not the rank stated, the player must take all the cards in the pile. But, if the cards are correct, the player who doubted must take all the cards. If more than one player says, "I doubt it", the following rules apply:

1.) The first player to say "I doubt it" takes precedence.

2.) If the first to say "I doubt it" is unclear, the doubter closest to the player's left takes precedence.

Card Games for Children - I Doubt It - Winning the Game

The first player to get rid of all their cards wins. They must put the last set of cards face-up because everyone would doubt them if they didn't.

I think my grandkids would enjoy this. I'm always looking for something we can do together besides sitting in front of the boob tube.
