Career Advancement Strategies: Blazing Your Way to Success

To get anywhere with your career, you have to be the right type of person. No matter what field you have chosen, it is important that you make excellence a pursuit. In your quest for excellence, it is important that you learn the career advancement strategies that have helped countless people throughout history make their own unique mark on the world.

Here are some career advancement strategies that you will find useful:

Be a decision-maker. Be aware of the differences in situations and act accordingly. Sometimes it is best to find consensus, sometimes better to act unilaterally. As a leader, however, take command responsibility for whatever course of action taken, and take infinite pains to make it work. As much as possible, prepare for the worst possible outcomes. This does not mean being negative; it just means you recognize that in reality things will not always go the way you want them to. Try to have alternative courses of action available to you - as a leader you don't want to be caught in a situation wherein you have no idea what to do next.

Look at yourself from an outside perspective. This can be quite the effective check against arrogance. When you see yourself through the eyes of other people, you will discover weaknesses and shameful behaviors that you will need to change and improve. Through this device you can improve your character and standing in society. Remember: you will need to manage your image if you are to reach the pinnacle of success.

Treat everyone like a million-dollar customer. Visualize each person you meet as someone very important, someone who has given you a million dollars and just might do so again, if you treat them well. Imagine a "make me feel important" sign on everyone you interact with. Smile at everyone. It is part of excellence to regard people better than others normally do.

Work harder on yourself than you do on your job. Be disciplined. Identify the skills, knowledge, and key relationships that you need to improve so that you can better achieve your goals. Keep in mind that the only thing you really have is yourself, so you should work on making yourself the best possible person you can be. Your output at work will provide for you your material needs, but it certainly won't give you happiness. Remember that self-development is much more important than worldly advancement, and unless you are able to forge yourself into the person you want to be, no amount of career advancement will satisfy you.
