Career Options with a Degree in I.T.

Where to Go with Your I.T. Degree

V. Sanders,
Looking for IT career options? Maybe you just finished school and are getting ready to enter the job market, or maybe you are looking into career options as a basis for deciding what sort of school would be in your best interest. Whatever your interest in IT careers, you are not by yourself. Careers in information technology are among the most sought after and fastest growing jobs in the marketplace today. Today's information technology jobs are very different from what they were when the field first opened up, offering the degreed IT professional a wide range of career options to match their other interests.

Analysts and engineers are among the highest paid professionals in the field of IT, earning a median of pay of 35 for 45 dollars an hour with top pay ranging around $50-$60 per hour, a salary that excites many who have information technology skills. What if that is not the sort of career you are interested in though? There are options, and many of them pay very well!

Information technology professionals who have people and sales skills can look forward to rewarding careers as sales representatives. IT sales reps can expect unlimited sales potential as Information applications continue to grow and change and the demand for newer technology grows.

IT professionals with artistic talent can look into jobs in creative design and digital art. IT professionals who can combine artistic skill with a technology degree can consider careers in web design. Those with strong artistic flair might consider working as a graphic designer, to satisfy their creative needs. If you can create GUIs that are both visually pleasing and technically sound, you might consider even becoming a web master.

Technical writing is another viable, but often overlooked ,career choice for the information technology professional. If you don't want to spend all day developing technology, you could just spend all day describing the usage, repair or development process to the rest of us. Technical writers are often in demand and are sometimes employed by high end companies. Those with IT degrees who seek a freelance career instead, can enjoy the benefits of a niche market that remains in high demand year after year.

Those seeking a degree in IT should consider what niche they would find themselves most comfortable in, and tailor their education to fit their needs. Obviously additional training and concentrations would vary depending on your ultimate goals. Consider when looking into a school or course whether or not it speaks to your specific needs. For instance, if graphic design is your interest why take a course that would be better suited to a future e commerce professional?

All in all, the field of information technology is wide open, ever changing, and filled with a variety of opportunities to suit pretty much any taste. If you are starting or looking to change your career, there's no reason you can't be creative and have fun with the options that are available to you, or maybe even invent one of your own.
