How to Plan You Career and Put Together a Career Plan

L J Pearce
Planning your career is essential if you want to stay focused, motivated and on the right path for success. Formulating and putting together a career plan will help you see exactly in black and white where you want to go, where you want to be and how you will get there. A career plan will help you take action.

So now lets get started. The first thing you need to do is take a piece of paper and write down your goals, aims and targets. For example if you are training to be a teacher, or are currently a teacher, then decide where you would like to end up, be it in a higher position or perhaps with a job that holds more responsibility/s. Set your goals, aims and targets as to where you want to be.

Next decide what time limit you will set for each of these goals or targets you have listed. For example can you reach one of your goals in a year, 2 years or 5 years? For each goal, aim or target make it defined. Set a deadline and work towards this deadline - this will help you keep on track with your career plan.

TOP TIP: Remember that a career plan is simply a guide, It is not meant to act as something set in stone that cannot change or adapt to your needs, situation or wants in life.

Now you have written down what you want to do and in what time. Now its time to work on how you will do these things, how you will get them completed so that you can move on and reach your end career goal. For example will you move up the career ladder every year, will you undertake more studying? What is required or necessary for you to move up.

TOP TIP: Share with others, friends and family what your aims and goals are. Lean on them for support and let them help you when they want to, it will help you get to where you want to be in a shorter period of time.

Now you have your goals and aims, their deadlines and how you will get to meet and hopefully surpass each goal now its time to put all of this into action and get to work on your career plan.

Remember that you will require motivation, hard work and determination to meet each and every goal, target or aim you have set. I hope you have found this article both useful and helpful. Good luck with creating and achieving your career plan I wish you every success.
