Caribbean Flavors in Lawrenceville, Georgia - Restaurant Review

Island Flavors and Vegan Delights

Karen Francis
Leroy Walwyn, Sr. who is a native of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands established Caribbean Flavors in 1993 in Alabama. Caribbean Flavors was so popular and successful that it paved the way to open up their second location in North Carolina and subsequently Lawrenceville, Georgia. Now, this is where Chef Leroy Walwyn, Jr. comes into the picture as executive chef. Leroy Walwyn, Jr. graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in 2007 and has followed in his father's footsteps ever since. Not only is Leroy Jr a great Chef, he does a lot of the marketing and promoting of the business.

Caribbean Flavors is a very vibrant and lively environment. As soon as you walk through the door you feel like you get a little taste of the Virgin Islands. The colors on the walls and bright and welcoming and the tables are nicely adorned with beautiful linen tablecloths during dinner hours. Also, the Caribbean Flavors menu is packed with favorites from the Islands that include some of MY favorites:

Salt Fish - This dish is fish stewed in calypso sauce or clear white sauce with onions and peppers.

Virgin Islands Potato Stuffing - A mix of potatoes, onions, pepper, celery, raisins and tomato sauce.

Johnny Cakes - These tasty cakes look almost like donuts, but they are Island cakes that have a little bit of sweet to them and they are simply wonderful.

Veggie burger -Not just your plain old veggie burger placed between two pieces of bread, but this veggie burger comes with no bread and has a little bit of special sauce, red peppers, onions and is simply delicious!

After tasting all of those wonderful flavors, you're going to need some special Island drinks to wash it down. Caribbean Flavors has several specialty drinks that include: Island Passion, which is a mix of Caribbean homemade fruit punch, and then there's Ginger Beer, which is Caribbean homemade Ginger and very refreshing!

Everyone that knows me knows I can't ever leave without something a little sweet and so if you're looking for sweetness, Caribbean Flavors has got you covered on that as well. They offer homemade cheesecake, Homemade rum cake and various tarts that include pineapple, coconut and guava. Caribbean Flavors is a great place to eat, but did you know they also have entertainment that includes poetry nights and live music? Well, now you know! So while you're feasting on Caribbean Flavors you get to listen to some great music and even join in!

The bottom line: Great Neighborhood, Great Caribbean Flavors and the price will knock your socks off. We had a very large dinner for two with Passion drinks and paid less than $25.00, plus we had enough food left over for another meal. Now that's what I call a Stimulus package!
