Carlos Pardo Dies in NASCAR Race Crash
The Carlos Pardo Crash Puts a Damper on the Season of NASCAR in Mexico
The Carlos Pardo crash is one of those moments that is going to be remembered in NASCAR lore for all the wrong reasons, and it was an extremely sad scene to watch it unfold on television. With a lot of bumping and nudging going on in the race, Carlos Pardo was able to take the lead in lap 97 of 100, and was pulling around one of the turns when he was nudged in the rear corner by a car trailing him. That sent Pardo's car into a brief spin, and without losing any momentum, the car crashed sideways into an extension of the infield wall. It was a horrific sight, and it was immediately clear that something was gravely wrong.
The Carlos Pardo crash video is linked at the end of this article, but brace yourself if you choose to watch it, because it is about as violent as a car crash can get. The one thing that should be noted though, is that the officials at the track made a very respectful decision on how to take Pardo from his car, and to avoid any additional trauma to his family and friends. NASCAR Mexico also made the honorable decision of declaring Carlos Pardo the winner of the race later on. That was the ultimate payment of respect to a great driver in the sport.
Carlos Pardo had been a very successful driver on the Mexican circuit of NASCAR, and had won the series championship back in 2004. He had won 10 career victories on the track, and had been in one United States Nationwide series race back in 2006. Carlos Pardo is going to be missed in the sport of racing, and passed away at the age of 33 years. Pardo is survived by his brother Ruben, who races in the NACAR Nationwide Series.
