We purchase our Carlson Cod Liver Oil Low Vitamin A Soft Gels from www.mercola.com, but if you do a Google search for "Carlson Cod Liver Oil", you'll find several other places that carry it too.
We had read about the many health benefits that come from regularly taking fish oil or cod liver oil. Living in Vermont, our "sunny season" is rather short, and we thought we might benefit from the Vitamin D in cod liver oil, so we take the Carlson Cod Liver Oil Soft Gels during the fall and winter months, then switch back to regular fish oil capsules for the spring and summer.
We liked the fact that the Carlson brand provides more cod liver oil than some other brands, and also that it is processed in Norway, from fish out of the deep, unpolluted water near there. Carlson Cod Liver Oil is processed without chemicals, another thing that we liked about their product.
The bottle we buy contains 300 soft gels. Recommended serving size is from one to five soft gels daily, but you can experiment to see how many work for you. Right now, I take three soft gels, and my husband takes four soft gels daily.
The first bottle of Carlson Cod Liver Oil Low Vitamin A Soft Gels I opened, I was a little apprehensive, as the soft gels looked rather large in size, but to my surprise, they were easy to swallow. I have not experienced any "fishy taste" or "burping" from these soft gels. I don't take them on an empty stomach though; I usually take them with my breakfast.
If you do any reading at all about the benefits of cod liver oil, you'll find many, many health benefits mentioned, everything from helping ADD children focus and concentrate better, to helping fight or prevent heart disease and diabetes.
We read that cod liver oil can possibly help to prevent colds and flu, and we were very interested in this health benefit. We were skeptical, but in our experience, there does seem to be something to that. We have taken the Carlson Cod Liver Oil Low Vitamin A Soft Gels for two winters now, and did not suffer from the flu either of those years. Of course, this is not a medical claim. It's just something that we observed for ourselves. Many people had the flu around us those two years, but we managed to avoid it.
This is our third year taking the Carlson Cod Liver Oil Low Vitamin A Soft Gels, and we're hoping that we can avoid winter colds and flu once again. We highly recommend this product.
