Song choice has been the death of Carly Smithson. She has the bad habit of choosing songs that do not suit her vocal range and abilities. Fortunately, on Andrew Lloyd Webber night on American Idol, Smithson got some help in that respect. The mentor told her she would be much better served to sing Jesus Christ Superstar instead of her original choice of All I Ask of You. She was challenged to have a vocal workout, and she was successful in giving a wonderful performance that will be remembered. Smithson's performance was one of the best of the evening, if not the best.
Carly Smithson finally appeared very comfortable on the stage, and happy to be performing for the crowd. The audience could see that she was enjoying herself and happy to entertain. Her comfort level was at a psace it had never been before. She managed to take an Andrew Lloyd Webber classic and make it her own by infusing her powerful voice into the song.
Carly Smithson's performance on last night's American Idol will help her greatly. She needed a good performance to propel her forward in the competition. On a season of American Idol that has been focused on the men, Carly Smithson proved that she should not be counted out. She may not have the same fan base as the two Davids, but her performance showed that she deserves to be right up there with them. It also proved that she is in a different league than the other women in the show. Carly will definitely be the last woman standing on American Idol. Unfortunately for her, both Davids will certainly finish above her, but she showed why she is destined to finish in a very respectable third place on American Idol.

Post a CommentI thought she was the only girl singer who could make it to the top 3 too, and judging by her comments that from here on out, she'd go for fun songs, she apparently thought she was safe too. Even though I personally did not like her over-the-top Superstar performance, I think she should have finished ahead of Brooke!
hehehehee..... "not counted out". And she was definitely the next to the next to the last girl standing... a very respectable 6th place....
