Carnation Good Start Vs. Enfamil Nutramigen

Being a mother and a ex-childcare provdier I have found so many people believing in different types of baby formulas. There are over 30 brands and types of baby formula on the market today. As a new parent it can be very tricky as to which formula to choose. Most babies are unfortunately caught in the nasty colic cycle, which is not only painful to the child, but painful to the parent as well. Finding the right formula for your baby is very important once you have decided to no longer breast feed.

When my son was born, he was breast fed for the first month, I then decided to switch him to a formula. Switching to a formula was the hardest decision I have ever had to make. With all of the propoganda for DHA and ARA vs. plain formula, it is not a wonder I had such a difficult decision. I began with Enfamil Lipil, great product, expensive and I couldn't understand why my baby was crying at night. I then decided to try a soy formula, this time I switched brands, I went with Similac. Great stuff, expensive and smelled discusting, and my baby was still crying at night.

I then contacted a few of my second time parent friend, she told me that my baby probably had the colic. I had never heard of that before, so I did some research, and it all made perfect sense. During my research I found many articles that stated Enfamily Nutramigen would be the best formula, as it is specially formulated to help baby's body digest the proteins in the formula. My husband and I searched many, many stores trying to find this special formula, so we all could finally rest peacefully at night. I then found the Nutramigen, and I fell over when I saw the price, $24 for a SMALL can. I thought this formula was going to make us bankrupt. We purchased it, as often as we needed to, and spent a fortune, but the baby was able to digest the formula, but still had a small bit of colic.

My husband and I decided that we were going to visit some friends, their son was maybe a year older than my son. Talking to our friends and telling them what we had been going through, they smiled and giggled at one another. Their son had the same problem, but so severe that neither one of them got any sleep in the first four months of his life. Our friend told us that he was litterally beating his head on the wall because their son was in such pain from the colic, they didn't know what to do. They too had purchased the expensive Nutramigen, but then their doctor had told them to switch him to Nestle's Good Start formula, the purple can.

Well, I am thankful they passed this information along to us. We immediately went to the store and purchased this formula, I was very skeptical because the price was a great deal cheaper and you actually got more formula for your money. But I took it home and made a few bottles for my son, he took the milk down with no problem, and went to sleep and slept all night long. After three months of not sleeping, I can't tell you how nice it felt to not be up at three o'clock in the morning with a screaming baby! This formula was $19 and I received $10 off coupons in the mail, which was an added perk. Needless to say we continued buying this formula up until we put him on whole cow's milk. That formula switch was the best ever, and to this day I recommend that formula to anyone that will listen to me ramble about how wonderful it is.

Most recently I was in the grocery store, and I saw a father looking at all the different formulas with a puzzled look on his face. For some reason I asked him if I could help him pick one out, he said sure. He told me that his child had the colic as well, I got this gleam in my eye and told him about my experience with the expensive formulas and what he should try. He went and bought it. I wil tell anyone that will listen! Hands down, Nestle Good Start formula is no doubt better, less expensive than any other colic product on the market.

If it was that simple (just to use the mylicon drops as the guest wrote up here on 8/30/09), the poster wouldn't have had this experience in the first place. she would have saved a great deal of money (nutramigen is not cheap).
