Carolina Panthers Exciting Fans with Offensive Improvements

How Many Points Will the Panthers Ring Up This Year?

The Carolina Panthers head into the NFL football season with a ton of question marks. Nobody seems to know what to really expect from this younger version of the Panthers. What used to be one of the most veteran NFL football teams is now largely made up of youngsters. The Panthers do have some serious talent, however.

Not many NFL teams would look at the Panthers and feel sorry for them. Not by a long shot. The simple fact that they have one of the most powerful running attacks in NFL history is enough to keep that from happening. Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams and that vaunted offensive line set an NFL record in 2009 by having both of these outstanding runners eclipse the thousand yard mark.

What makes that accomplishment so notable is that it was accomplished with injuries all up and down the offensive line. All Pro tackle Jordan Gross and others were out for significant games and yet the running game chugged along. That has to bode well considering that Gross is back and so are the rest of the linemen. With all of them healthy, and the backups already knowing they can step in and do the job, the Panthers are ready for a serious running attack once again.

Another reason the Panthers are right on track for a great running attack is because the passing attack should be so much better. Matt Moore is stepping in and taking over a passing game that saw little to cheer about in 2009. What was good last year was because of Moore anyway. The last few games of the season were led by Moore and his steady passing attack. He was not spectacular but when you have DeAngelo and Stewart in the backfield there was no need for him to be. Those few times that spectacular was necessary in the passing game, Moore delivered. What more could be asked of the guy?

With a healthy offensive line, confident backups and a much improved season of passing, the Panthers seem to be primed for a good offensive year. If some of the young receivers are able to step in and contribute enough to keep the double teams off of Steve Smith, then it could be a huge offensive year. One thing is for sure - Panther fans are more excited this year about the offense than perhaps any other season in history.

  • Matt Moore will likely be better than advertised.
  • Jonathan Stewart is quickly becoming one of the best running backs in the game.
  • DeAngelo Williams is working on a string of 1000 yd seasons.

I hate to wish y'all luck since you're division rivals and all, but it's not like you're cheering for those damned dirty birds in Atlanta, sooo...good luck (in all your games but two)! :)

I hated it when Dallas let Matt Moore slip away. I know we have Tony Romo but I saw flashes in that kid in preseason games and I think he's just gonna get better and better.
