Carolina Panthers Have No Luck at All

Jeffrey Weeks
The Carolina Panthers got terrible news on Thursday, as Sanford QB Andrew Luck announced that he was staying in school at Sanford and won't become the Panthers' first round pick in the upcoming 2011 NFL draft.

It's as if they have no luck at all.

"I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012", said Luck.

Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has said his intent is to keep the pick, but that was before Luck's decision. Carolina is also looking for a new head coach.

Adding to the uncertainty is the fact that the NFL labor deal between owners and players expires on March 4, potentially scuttling the NFL Draft anyway and leading to a likely lockout of players by clubs.

Andrew Luck played brilliantly this season, leading Stanford to a 12-1 record a rout of Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl, while the Carolina Panthers were awful finishing 2-14.
