Carolina Panthers Vs Pittsburgh Steelers: Las Vegas Line & Pick Against the Spread

Reeling Carolina Panthers Run into Menacing Pittsburgh Steelers Defense

Todd Jacobs
The Carolina Panthers will face their toughest defense of the season when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football. The Carolina Panthers may look like a team heading into the slaughter in this game. This game is one of the largest spread of the 2010 NFL season but there may be some key considerations in this game.

Mike Tomlin's Pittsburgh Steelers best players are ailing as they head into a game they should easily win. Troy Polamalu is laid up and Ben Roethlisberger will be in need of rest when playing this game on a short week. the Carolina Panthers have nothing to play for and they will not hurt their chances for the first overall NFL Draft pick in this game.

Carolina Panthers Offense vs Pittsburgh Steelers Defense

The Carolina Panthers offense is based on Jonathan Stewart in this game but Jimmy Clausen will be asked to make short, safe passes in this game. With Polamalu out of the line up the short passes by Clausen may be easier to complete. The Carolina Panthers offense is averaging only 112 yards per game but this a direct reflection of the injuries they have sustained in the back field to Stewart and DeAngelo Williams.

The Pittsburgh Steelers defense is missing their two most important players leading up to this game. Aaron Smith was lost over a month ago and now Troy Polamalu is ailing with ankle and knee injuries. Without these two key members of the defense the Pittsburgh Steelers struggled last season and it will make it tougher for them to make big defensive plays. The Pittsburgh Steelers weakened defense still has the edge over the Carolina Panthers anemic offense.

Pittsburgh Steelers Offense vs Carolina Panthers Defense

Ben Roethlisberger has been up to snuff as the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback this season but he has returned to the Big Ben of years ago. He is back to managing games and this what the Pittsburgh Steelers need to compete against the tough defenses in the AFC Playoffs.

Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers offense is averaging just 212 yards per game passing and their running game is not much better. On the ground the Pittsburgh Steelers are only averaging 120 yards per game. Rashard Mendenhall is picking up his pace over the beginning of the year but he has failed to be consistent over the course of the season.

Defense on the Carolina Panthers has been an issue on this team but they have recovered well from the loss of Julius Peppers to the Chicago Bears. Up front the Carolina Panthers have been solid but they are still weak against the run. They are yielding over 132 yards per game on the ground but they are playing well containing receivers on the edges. The corners are holding opposing passers to 205 yards per game through the air. The Pittburgh Steelers offense and the Carolina Panthers defense are equal.

Carolina Panthers vs Pittsburgh Steelers -15.5: Pick Against the Spread & Breakdown
