The New York Giants officially open the new football stadium at the Meadowlands this Sunday when they host the Carolina Panthers in the first regular season game of the 2010 NFL season. The game can be seen on FOX and kickoff is scheduled for 1pm.
Injuries: The big story here is cornerback Aaron Ross, who is currently listed as "doubtful" for Sunday's game. Current reports indicate that Ross is ready to play. He is likely to be a game time decision.
The Giants will win...
because they played their best preseason football in their last contest. Memories of a less-than-stellar August were erased when Eli Manning and company looked to be in mid-season form while playing the Patriots two Thursdays ago. The Giants offense has to be loving all this talk about the team's running game. Eli may go deep on the Giants' first offensive play in the new stadium.
New York's roster and coaching staff have done a great job playing down last year's 41-9 defeat at the hands of the Panthers. The Giants haven't forgotten that day. Look for a rejuvenated pass rush to make for a bad day for Carolina quarterback Matt Moore.
The Giants will lose...
because linebacker by committee is not what you want facing the Carolina running game. The Giants have not even tried to hide the fact that the team has no real starting linebacker unit heading into the start of the 2010 NFL regular season. The "how will this defense be without Antonio Pierce's guidance" question begins to get answered tomorrow.
It's been bad times in the New York secondary whenever Aaron Ross has been on the sidelines. The lack of depth at cornerback was very visible during the preseason, and no Ross could mean bad times for Big Blue on Sunday.
Prediction
I just can't see the Giants losing this football game. Ross' health aside, this may be the healthiest the Giants have been since June (that's really saying something, isn't it?). Two Eli Manning TDs and a rushing score by Ahmad Bradshaw put the Panthers away tomorrow afternoon.
Giants 24
Panthers 13
