Caroline Kennedy Bows Out of New York Senate Bid

Nneka
It was reported by a New York media outlet that Caroline Kennedy had decided to withdraw from consideration as a possible replacement for former senator Hilary Rodham Clinton, the now secretary of state. Ms Kennedy, who is the daughter of dead president John F. Kennedy, apparently told New York governor David Patterson today to remove her from the list of potential replacements. This is happening on the same day that Hilary Clinton was confirmed as Madam Secretary of State, and a day after Ms. Kennedy's uncle Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, suffered a seizure relating to his brain tumor.

Caroline's reason for withdrawal is said to be related to her uncle's health, as he battles brain tumor for which he has had surgery. It must be welcoming news to next runner up Andrew Cuomo, the New York Attorney General who is apparently highly qualified as well to fill the seat.

I really wished Caroline gave it a shot as I believe she would have made a fine senator. Contrary to what people have said about her family name being the reason for her consideration, I must disagree by saying that had it been the name, she would by this age have contested for political seats at some point in her earlier life (She is 51 years old!)

She has a strong resume under her belt including being an author, attorney, and having worked for some years as chief executive officer for the Office of Strategic Partnership for the New York City Department of Education, helping raise over $200 million for the New York Public Schools. She is also a director on the commission that oversees presidential debates, and a director for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, to name a few.

So what do people mean when they label someone as "inexperienced?" No one goes into a job for the first time knowing everything. One has to start somewhere and new experience is gained in the process.

The people who bash her as an opportunist were probably the same people who said that the then senator Barrack Obama had no experience nor did he have the capacity to run a successful election for president.

As we have seen, not only did Obama run a well organized and respectful campaign, but he is now the 44th president of the United States. Best of luck Caroline and continue your hard work!
