Welcome to another fun year at Carowinds theme park in Charlotte, NC. Most parks do a little renovating during their off-season but this year Carowinds may have outdone itself. In addition to renaming some of their more popular thrill rides, they've added more spills and thrills to Boomerang Bay - the water park within the theme park. All of your favorites are still there, alongside a brand new attraction and features that you won't find at every park.

While the rest of us were making their way through the long, cold winter, Carowinds was carving a brand new 600,000 gallon wave pool called Bondi Beach. Covering 35,000 square feet, Bondi Beach is the second wave pool in Boomerang Bay. The original wave pool, Great Barrier Reef, remains in operation and continues to be the centerpiece of Boomerang Bay. As anyone who has been to Carowinds on a hot summer day can attest, the wave pool can be one of the more jam-packed attractions at the park. The addition of a second wave pool should make it much easier to cool off on any crowded day.

If a new wave pool wasn't enough Carowinds has set the bar for a new level of paradise within the park. Private cabanas situated alongside Bondi Beach are now available for rental every operating day throughout the season. Imagine secluding yourself from the rest of the park in your own private hideaway! Each cabana can entertain up to six guests and comes with an array of perks that are well worth the price of the rental. Every guest receives a bottle of water upon arrival and one free inner tube rental for the Bondi Beach wave pool. Food and beverage service is provided while you bask in the sun poolside on your included lounge chairs. A patio table with umbrella sits just outside your cabana so you can enjoy your lunch without having to fight the crowds for the food or the seating! Each cabana comes with a lockbox to protect your personal belongings when you want to venture to other areas of the water park. You can even pull the curtains on your cabana to enjoy some private time with your family - it's much easier than braving the locker rooms!

The prices for the cabanas vary by date and are less expensive for season pass holders during the week and on off-peak weekends. You do need to reserve, and pay for, your cabana before arriving at the park - especially on busy days. During special events, such as the 4th of July, you may want to place your reservation several days in advance. Your cabana is yours during the entire operating day of the water park but you must arrive to claim it by 2p.m. or it will be given away. The food and beverage service to your cabana is free, however you do have to pay for your meals and drinks. Season pass holders and cabana renters can access the water park one half-hour before it opens Sunday-Friday and get settled before the rides officially open at 11a.m.

With a long, hot summer that is surely ahead of us you can't find a better place to cool off than Carowinds' Boomerang Bay. And now thanks to the Bondi Beach cabanas you can take an ordinary trip to the theme park and turn it into a mini-vacation!
