Carpet Cleaning Review: Capture Carpet Cleaning System

Susan Sosbe
Since we're getting ready to sell our home, I knew it was time to take a look around and decide what I could do to spruce up the place a bit. I noticed the carpet and I was immediately discouraged.

I knew it would take a miracle to make the carpet look anywhere near presentable. It was dingy and worn down to bare spots in places. I knew I needed a carpet cleaner that would be touch on dirt without being tough on the carpet.

While in Home Depot this weekend, I scanned the cleaning aisle and my eyes fell on Capture Carpet Cleaning System made by Milliken & Company. It is a three-piece kit that included and pre-treating spray, a deep cleaning powder and a scrub brush. The scrub brush has a threaded hole that will attach to any threaded handle just by screwing it in.

It is an easy four step system to clean your carpet. First, you lightly spray the pre-treatment on the area of the carpet you are working in. Then you sprinkle the deep cleaning powder and scrub the powder in using the scrub brush. After you wait thirty minutes, you are ready to vacuum up the powder using your vacuum cleaner.

You will immediately notice the carpet looks and feels cleaner. It also works very well at reviving the pile in the carpet. The best part of Capture Carpet Cleaning System is it leaves your carpets dry. Unlike a steam cleaner, you can walk on the carpet immediately.

Capture also gives off no harsh fumes. In fact, I didn't notice a smell at all.

I definitely prefer Capture Carpet Cleaning System to using a steam carpet cleaner. In the past, when using a steam cleaner, it seems like the wet carpet likes to absorb and draw up the dirt that is found underneath the carpet. This causes the carpet to only appear clean for a few weeks at most before it goes back to its original dingy look.

Maybe it's because I walked on the still-wet carpet before I was supposed to, but hey, a girl's gotta live in her house, right? Regardless, you don't have that issue with Capture Carpet Cleaning System. You can walk on your carpet immediately.

Each kit should clean up to one room, one large area rug, several traffic lanes or it should do up to one hundred spot cleans.

While it may take a bit of elbow grease to scrub certain areas of your carpet, I think you will find Capture is much easier and quicker than continuously emptying the reservoir tank and refilling the holding tank on a steam cleaner.

After using Capture Carpet Cleaning System, my carpet is much cleaner. I may not be able to do anything about the bare spots, but at least it is more presentable.

If you need to give your carpets a once over or if you have areas that need spot treated, I highly recommend giving Capture's system a try.

I have a Kenmore Carpet Cleaner that I purchased at Sears in Canada many years ago. It is a wonderful machine but now I can't find the Capture powder for it.
Do you know where I can get it in Ontario, Canada. Thanks so much

I've always wondered if those types of kits worked, so relieved to see your opinion. What color of carpet do you have? My living room is entirely carpeted in white, so I get a bit nervous when trying out new products. I ended up going with an Austin Carpet Cleaning company (http://www.hartscarpetcleaning.com/) and really liked the results - but, would be open to trying something new next time! Thanks!

DMS Carpet Cleaners in Stamford Ct use organic based cleaning products which have no harsh fumes and clean effectively. The problem with granular/powder cleaners is that they do not offer a "deep" cleaning. What is the benefit of being immediately dry ,when it is not fully cleaned? We use a high powered Truckmount -this machine costs as much as the van itself!- and although carpets are not dry in 1 hour -Usually takes 3-6- you get a thourough cleaning. This method is preferred by most manufacturers. DMS Carpet Cleaners services all of Fairfield County ,Ct.
