Carrie Prejean Fired; Loses Miss California Crown to Tami Farrell

Tami Farrell is the New Miss California

Carly Hart
The Carrie Prejean saga has a new chapter today as Carrie Prejean has been fired and now Tami Farrell will wear the Miss California crown. According to Fox News, who has exclusive copies of emails exchanged between Carrie Prejean and the Miss California pageant director, Carrie Prejean was fired today due to violating her Miss California contract. In fact, the emails posted online by Fox News show a tense dialog, amounting to what could be deemed petulance on her part.

The news of Carrie Prejean's firing does not come as a surprise to this writer, simply because I have followed many past beauty pageant scandals. Having followed this story from the get-go when Perez Hilton posted a video blog post calling her an unflattering name, followed shortly by the nude and nearly nude photos of her hitting the Internet, and finally on to the news conference where it appeared that the past was under the bridge and the Donald did not find her photos offensive enough to warrant the stripping of her crown, I got a sense of who she was. As they say in the business, there's no such thing as bad press.

In the midst of scandal, Carrie Prejean filled in as an anchor on Fox & Friends. It was obvious to me that even if Carrie Prejean did lose her crown to Tami Farrell that should would, like a cat, land on her feet.

Why Carrie Prejean should have been fired (this time)

As one who previously worked in the legal field, for me, this all came down to the contract. If Carrie Prejean was not holding up her end of the contract, then she should have been fired and the Miss California Crown given to Tami Farrell. From reviewing the emails shot back and forth on the Fox News site, I got a vibe that Ms. Prejean was empowered by all of the attention lavished on her after losing Miss USA. Like a teenager stretching their wings with mom and dad, she came across as demanding and petulant in the emails, letting them know which events she was choosing to attend, eschewing the role of the pageant to arrange events of their choosing. In one of the emails, Ms. Prejean practically dares them to fire her.

Much like a draft pick might drop out of college to play in the major leagues, perhaps Carrie Prejean has chosen to get fired so that she may move on to greener pastures. At any rate, with Carrie Prejean's firing, California has a new beauty to wear the Miss California crown. Let's hope Tami Farrell's reign as Miss California is a quiet one.

Very thoughtful take on this. I agree--what it came down to fulfilling her contractual obligations. Still, I have to hand it to her for not being intimidated by Perez, Moakler et. al.

Nice write up. IMO, there is something rather distasteful about a surgically enhanced young woman dancing and prancing around the stage in a bikini, only to then be "judged" by a panel of guys like a head of cattle. But then again, maybe it's just me.

I think the whole thing is very odd. Why bother asking her a question if you will only accept one answer? If her viewers were not what they wanted, then they shouldn't have chosen her and paid for her implants.

Was with you til the end. Hoped you would end with something like Let's hope the days of beauty contests dominating news are coming to an end. :)

You can see the partial nude photos (just breasts) and a small video of her for the Playboy shoot over at http://vostuu.com/prejean.html

Does anyone really care about this? The girl has had more than her l5 minutes of fame. Now she can go pose for Playboy or something similar. Money has to be involved with Donald Trump owner of the pagent. Maybe she's got a spot on the next Apprentice. Or maybe, reporters will forget about her now and she can go home and put that crown where the sun don't shine. Enough!

She sure had gotten her share of notoriety.

This is quite a jolt. I had not kept up with the latest squabbles and bickering. Thanks for the complete report.
