Carrie Prejean Sex Tape and Settling for Hypocrisy

Former Miss California Gets to Keep Rights to Book, but the Victory is Empty

The Carrie Prejean sex tape video was instrumental in bringing to a quick settlement the Carrie Prejean discrimination lawsuit against Miss California USA, the organization she once represented. TMZ reported that it took all of 15 seconds of the sex tape video for Carrie Prejean to get up and walk out, leaving her shocked mother sitting there speechless. TMZ also reported that some of their sources stated that Carrie Prejean would get nothing in the settlement. But it seems as if the sex tape video sources were a bit premature in their assessment.

TMZ reported that the Miss California USA Pageant organization will pay Carrie Prejean's lawyers and publicists $100,000. Carrie Prejean herself still gets nothing, except an alleviation of monstrous bills incurred during the legal battle. Pageant officials also told TMZ that they would not fight Carrie Prejean over the rights to her tell-all book, Still Standing, that was released Monday.

The two parties agreed to drop the lawsuits against each other on November 3. Carrie Prejean had sued Miss California USA for $1 million in damages for stripping her of her title, stating that the Pageant organization had discriminated against her on religious grounds and defamed her. The Miss California USA contingent filed a countersuit demanding the return of the $5,200 they had loaned Prejean for breast augmentation surgery in January.

It wasn't until the next day that TMZ learned that the real reason Carrie Prejean had been so quick to settle the case at such a marked disadvantage was because of the sex tape video.

Carrie Prejean's book, Still Standing: The Untold Story of My Fight Against Gossip, Hate, and Political Attacks, is billed to be a tell-all about the "ordeal" Prejean went through working for the Pageant and how they attempted to force her to do things against her will, such as not talk about god.

In the book, she discusses her Christian beliefs and condemns pornography. Prejean wrote: "Our bodies are temples of the Lord. We should earn respect and admiration for our hearts, not for showing skin to be sexy." On "Today" Tuesday, Meredith Vieira asked her about people criticizing her for the apparent hypocrisy innate in the statement, considering her nude photos and the sex tape video. Prejean said she was a model, that she was in a beauty pageant. "If people want to call me a hypocrite, that's their prerogative."

Hopefully, Meredith Vieira explained the meaning of "hypocrisy" to Carrie Prejean after the interview...

Ahh, hypocrisy. Such an overburdened and abused word.

A woman makes a sexy video for a boyfriend--something lots of girls (unwisely) do these days--and he passes it to her enemies. But HE'S no hypocrite? Strange... This video (or plural) is, at minimum, two years old (she's 22 now; the boyfriend says she was 20); her moral and spiritual progress since then is ignored. A hypocrite is one who professes one thing and lives something lower--AT THE SAME TIME. She was unmarried; that is the only real conflict with her Christian professions anyway. It's no problem if a wife does the same for her husband. If you yourself are not disturbed by unmarried adults having sexual fun, you have no basis for criticizing her for hers.
