Carroll County, Virginia

Carroll County High School is a middle sized school located in the small town of Hillsville, Virginia. It may be a small community but they know how to make a big impact. Starting tomorrow they are hosting a week long fund raiser to raise money for the people of Haiti. The American Red Cross is playing a role in this fund raiser. The students and staff of the school are doing most of the work, but it is through the Red Cross. They are who the check will be delivered to. There are several activities such as wearing red to kick off the fund raiser, collecting change every day, having a pep rally, and several school clubs have agreed to match the donations up to around three-hundred dollars.

Matt Hall is a well known senior at Carroll County High School. He is a hard core republican and is very active in the local interact club. Matt is also known for being one of the most talkative students in the school. He is the one that started organizing this fund raiser. As part of the pep rally Matt Hall is going to take a vow of silence and wear an Obama 2012 shirt for a full day. Just to make his vow of silence even more concrete, an English teacher suggested that every time he talked he had to donate more money towards the cause.

Dr. Scott Watson, the first year principal at Carroll County High School, is said to be getting a pie thrown in his face at the pep rally. Two teachers/coaches will be dressing up as cheerleaders and doing a cheer at the rally. Originally one of the coaches had agreed to shave his legs, but plans seem to have changed. A biology teacher will be showing off her martial art skills and the band director will be doing a humorous dramatic reading. It is also rumored that either one or two teachers will be duct taped to the wall. This idea came about several years ago when they taped a former Carroll County High principal along with a sports coach to the cafeteria wall.

Carroll County is known to show school spirit so having a pep rally will be a great way to raise money for the people of Haiti. No official goal has been set just yet, but during the beginning discussions about this fund raiser the goal was three-thousand dollars, plus matching money from a school club. If this unofficial goal is reached, it is expected to be exceeded, then Carroll County High School class of 2010 will be remembered for many years to come. Not only will the people of Carroll County and Carroll County High School remember the senior class of 2010 for this great deed, but so will the people of Haiti.
