The Indian Government has been trying to give mobility to people with physical disability. A statement has been made in the Parliament recently that Indian car manufacturers should now focus on making more cars to suit the need of the physically challenged people. There are many cars available in the Indian car market which can be altered on specific order to suit the disability of the person. The Indian Government also provides excise duty concessions on cars meant for physically challenged people.

The following is a list of cars that can modified according to the need of persons with physical disability.

The Tata Indigo from can be redone with a hand operated brake and accelerator to make it suitable for a person with a right limb disability. A switch console can be fitted to operate the lights and the horn. The controls of this sedan are dual in nature and do not effect the normal controls.

The Scorpio from Mahindra is a good choice for a person who has one or both limb disability. The Scorpio can be equipped with a hand operated brake accelerator and clutch. The switch console can be upgraded for operating the headlights, parking lights and horns. The steering knob of this SUV can also be adjusted for easy steering.

The Toyota Innova suits a person having a right limb disability. The SUV can be reorganized with a hand operated brake and accelerator. A switch console is fitted for easy operation of all electrical. The customized model comes with controls that are dual in nature and do not affect the normal controls of the car. Toyota also customises the Corolla Automatic. Here, the hand controls are dual in nature and do not interfere with the normal foot controls.

The "Tall Boy" Santro from Hyundai can be upgraded with a hand operated brake and accelerator to assist a person with a right limb disability in driving. The headlamps and the horn can be operated by the switch console fitted on the brake lever for convenience.

The Honda City is a premium car that can be modified for a person with either limb disability or both limb disabilities. A hand operated brake and accelerator as well as a switch console with access to all the electrical appliances and the horn can be secured on the brake lever for easy maneauvering.Indian car major Maruti Suzuki also furnishes cars to suit the demand of the physically challenged people. The Maruti Suzuki Esteem can be modified with a hand operated brake and accelerator as well as a vacuum assisted hand operated clutch to suit the demand for a person to drive with both limb disabilities. The Maruti Versa can be upgraded with a portable ramp exclusive for wheelchair user. The reworked Versa suits persons with either limb disability or both limb disabilities. The Maruti Omni or the Maruti Van can also be equipped with a hand operated brake and accelerator making it drivable for persons with a right limb disability. All the three cars have the switches of head lights and parking lights as well as the horn on the switch console fixed on the brake lever.
