to find a gourd that's just right.
So we can frighten little children
on all hallows eve night.
We find a pumpkin that is large and round.
Oh yes, this is the one!
We rush home with our treasure,
anticipating the fun.
We spread the paper and gather 'round.
The top is carefully cut out.
I dig my hands into the pulpy guts,
and give a gleeful shout.
The insides are scooped away,
leaving a hollow space.
We take a pen and begin to draw
an evil madman's face.
We use a small paring knife
to cut around each feature.
Finally we are almost done.
We've created a menacing creature.
A candle is placed inside
and lit with the utmost care.
Our jack-o-lantern is alive!
Oh, little kiddies, beware!
