Casey Anthony Released; Why She May Talk

Florida woman, Casey Anthony, mother and "person-of-interest" of missing toddler Caylee Anthony, was released from jail yesterday on $500,000 bond. Met with a shoving match and shouts by angry reporters yelling, "Did you kill Caylee?," an umbrella-covered Casey Anthony was accompanied by both her lawyer, Jose Baez and bounty hunter, Leonard Padilla. Now that Casey Anthony is out of jail, what is next for the mother who has been compared to the likes of Susan Smith, Scott Peterson and Andrea Yates?

Given that Casey Anthony was released from jail and made bond courtesy of financial support from two California bail bondsmen, Leonard and his nephew Tony Padilla, the tides of the Anthony maelstrom aren't receding anytime soon. Though the right to bail is provided by the Sixth Amendment, the public has not been too keen about her jail release. The bail bondsmen are accused of glory-seeking and/or merely after the $250,000 reward for the return of Caylee Anthony.

Parked in an RV outside of Casey Anthony's parents' home, the bail bondsmen are armed with a taser gun and more deadly weapons. This due to death threats the men have received rather than fear that Casey Anthony will try to escape -- an unlikely occurrence given her ankle bracelet and house arrest setup.

Since Casey Anthony was let out of jail, Leonard Padilla has maintained to Fox News reporters that Caylee Anthony is still alive but admitted that their interest will end should DNA evidence lead to new charges brought against Casey Anthony. Currently, Anthony is charged with child neglect and filing a false report to police.

The Orange County police remain in wait of evidence from an FBI crime lab including that of soil samples (Casey Anthony reportedly borrowed a shovel following Caylee Anthony's disappearance) and tangible signs of decomposition, such that alerted police cadaver dogs.

Tried in the court of public opinion with nightly coverage by Fox News Greta Van Susteren, it is evident that Casey Anthony has not cooperated with police and has deemed to be a pathological liar or worse by spectators and case followers.

What will the Casey Anthony jail release accomplish?

The apparent high-minded goal for the release of Casey Anthony from jail is to make the environment more conducive for Anthony to discuss or leak her knowledge of the whereabouts of her daughter. This may be accomplished by continual pressure from loved ones, the bounty hunter or even accidentally as Casey Anthony begins to relax.

It's unlikely the bounty hunters will have much luck, however. As Casey Anthony has been instructed by her attorney not to discuss the case to the resident party watching her 24/7.

Given that the Casey Anthony psychiatric exam, taken prior to her release from jail, has not been made public, both professionals and laypersons can only speculate on what personality disorder(s) Casey Anthony must have that explain her public actions.

With a record of repeated lies and lack of demonstrable remorse for her missing daughter, pathological liar, narcissism and borderline personality disorder are some labels that come to mind for many bloggers and commentators -- even sociopath, fairly or not, has been mentioned.

Unless Casey Anthony is a sociopath, it is somewhat optimistic that she'll break, slip or otherwise come to terms with reality versus fantasy. If nothing else, her parents may not let her rest until the truth is out -- speculation on their involvement notwithstanding. However, if the mind of Casey Anthony works more like a Scott Peterson or OJ Simpson the jail release will only encourage her, so the commentary goes.

It may be that Casey Anthony is more akin to a Susan Smith, who drowned her kids, cried wolf and maintained her innocence. Unlike Susan Smith, however, Casey Anthony has shown little remorse. With over a month delay in reporting her daughter as missing and photos showing her partying after her daughter's disappearance, among other evidence, she is a different animal altogether -- be it a neglectful mother or murderer.

Personal thoughts on the Casey Anthony release

Having known someone who was eerily similar to Casey Anthony in manor, who was able to convince others she was a good mother despite gross neglect and periods of abandonment, who, like Casey Anthony, put romance above her child's interest, I'm not fully convinced Casey Anthony committed murder.

Yet, I do believe she is responsible for Caylee's well-being, whatever that may be at this stage, and is guilty of a gross crime -- be it accidental death or relinquishing her child to another person. And, I believe her newer romantic relationship is related, whether it was made a priority or Caylee became inconvenient.

The one thing I learned about someone who cares more about their own well being than that of their child is that their own narcissism will trip them up eventually. Also that such a person may let down briefly and yet be quickly re-energized. Long-term professional observation is often needed to detect lies and inconsistencies.

Unfortunately, time is not on Caylee Anthony's side, if she is alive.
