Casey Anthony Trial: Angry Judge Threatens Jose Baez with Sanctions, Contempt

Defense Violates Order Regarding Witness Reports, Attempts to Enter Evidence Through the Back Door, and Drags Innocent Man into This Case

I find that Jose Baez, the attorney for Casey Anthony, keeps trying to get evidence in through the back door to avoid putting his client on the stand. He continuously breaks the rules.

On Saturday, Judge Belvin Perry threatened him with sanctions and contempt charges for attempting to present evidence that was not provided to the prosecution or contained in a pretrial expert report. Earlier this year, Judge Perry fined Baez for violating an order to turn over expert witness discovery to the prosecution. Nonetheless, Baez continuously attempts, as the judge said this morning, to pick and chose which court orders he wants to follow.

On Friday, Baez called an FBI forensic examiner to testify about blood evidence studies. Since blood is not an issue in this trial, I couldn't figure out where he was going. That is, until he asked her if "she had been asked" by law enforcement to do a paternity test determining if Lee Anthony, Casey's brother, was Caylee's father. According to prosecutor Jeff Ashton, the question was "not in good faith" and leads the jury to believe there is something they're not being told that would prompt law enforcement to make this request.

tru-TV-InSession this week reported that Baez claimed that George Anthony made four calls to Vasco Thompson, a convicted kidnapper, the day before Caylee was reported missing in July, 2008. Only problem is, Thompson didn't have that phone number until February, 2009, and, if you transpose two numbers, it comes up as the number to Anthony's job. This shows sloppy investigation and a callous disregard for Thompson, whose arrest stemmed from a domestic dispute. A man who's turned his life around, he's now been characterized as a violent convicted criminal. It's Zenaida Gonzales all over again, who lost her job, apartment and reputation due to accusations by Casey that she kidnapped Caylee.

I find Baez to be patently dishonest, unlikable, sneaky and quite possibly stupid if he actually thinks people will believe that Roy Kronk found the body, moved it, duct-taped the head and then put it in the trash dump where it was found. And even if that absurd assumption was true, so what? Does that mean Casey Anthony is any less responsible for the purposeful or accidental death of her daughter and the subsequent cover up that cost police and searchers hundreds of thousands of dollars and destroyed innocent people's lives?
