Casey Anthony's 3 year old daughter, Caylee, has been missing now for weeks. It has become a huge news story in Orlando and across the United States. This story has become the main focus on such television crime discussion shows like Nancy Grace.
Casey did not report her daughter missing for over 30 days. 30 days. I can not imaging not seeing my child for 5 days, let alone 30. It seems that she only began to act concerned once her mother pressed her about Caylee. She had not told friends about her daughter missing. The day her mother found out, Casey sent text messages to her friends asking them to pray for Caylee and if they see her to let her know.
Protesters have been camping out in front of Caylee's grandparent's house for a while now. One protester even held a sign that said "I would not go 30 days without looking for my dog." Another poster was a small child, probably around the age of 5, holding a sign that said "Grandpa, please find me."
Casey parents have been scrutinized in the media. I am still out on whether or not I find fault with the grandparents for what possibly happened. However, I have a big problem with the fact that they are sitting across from Casey, eating dinner. How are they able to carry-on a conversation with their daughter, as if she is not the one who holds the truth to what happened to Caylee.
Since Casey reported her daughter missing, she has been arrested three times. Once for child neglect and twice for stealing and fraud. Some people wonder why she has not been arrested in the murder for her child. Even without a body, one can be charged with murder if there is enough circumstantial evidence.
I think between the searches conducted on her laptop and in her abandoned car, as well as the simple fact that she did not know where her child was for over 30 days, the police and district attorney probably have enough evidence to arrest Casey. However, once the police arrest her for the murder of her child, the clock starts ticking.
Every American is entitled to certain rights as outlined under the Constitution. One of these rights is the right to a speedy trial. If the police arrest her now, they are limited to being able to continually obtain additional evidence. If they wait, they will be able to build a larger case against her.
Casey has been covered so much in the media that I am doubtful that she would be able to hide, if she ran. I would rather the police and the DA's office build as much evidence against this mother as possibly, to be able to prosecute her to the fullest.
